Betting Tips, Picks, and Predictions for AFL Round 6 (April 22-25, 2022)

| April 20, 2022 3:39 am PDT

The AFL ladder is beginning to take shape. As we head into Round 6, Melbourne leads the way with a 100% record. At the opposite end of the standings, winless Port Adelaide is at rock bottom.

Can the Power pick up their first win of the season when the Eagles visit the Adelaide Oval? Will the Demons secure a sixth straight victory against Richmond? Can Fremantle, Brisbane, St Kilda, Sydney, and Carlton keep pace with Melbourne?

I attempt to answer all of those questions – and a whole load more – in this post. Read on to discover my Round 6 AFL predictions, betting tips, and picks.

St Kilda to Beat GWS Giants

St Kilda heads into Round 6 on a four-game winning streak, having dispatched Fremantle, Richmond, Hawthorn, and Gold Coast. Thanks to their strong start to the season, the Saints are one of five teams on 16 points.

On the flip side,
the Giants have lost four of their five games this year. Following a 67-point thrashing at the hands of the Demons last time out, they look set to suffer a third straight defeat against St Kilda on Friday.

Western Bulldogs to Beat Adelaide

It is no secret that the Western Bulldogs have made a below-par start to 2022. But after winning two of their previous three encounters, they will be confident of picking up a third win in four outings when Adelaide comes to town.

Although the Crows have an identical record to the Bulldogs, they have conceded 100+ points in two of their past four games. For that reason, I expect the Dogs to flex their muscles and get the better of Adelaide on home soil.

Port Adelaide to Beat West Coast

Following defeats to Brisbane, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Carlton, Port Adelaide occupies last place on the AFL ladder. Still, the visit of West Coast provides the 2020 minor premiers with the ideal opportunity to notch their first win of the season.

The Eagles have also made a dreadful start to the campaign, losing four of their five matches. Having conceded 121 points in a 63-point thrashing against Sydney last weekend, they are destined to struggle against the Power.

Fremantle to Beat Carlton

Matt Taberner was the star of the show as Fremantle crushed Essendon by 48 points in Round 5. The spearhead kicked a career-high SEVEN goals last time out, helping the Dockers to secure their fourth victory in five matches.

Meanwhile, Carlton edged out Port Adelaide by three points last weekend. Although the Blues have also won four of their five games in 2022, I can see the Dockers winning this clash with the home-field advantage on their side.

Geelong to Beat North Melbourne

North Melbourne comes into Round 6 on a three-game losing streak. After losing four of their opening five outings, the Kangaroos find themselves second from bottom in the standings. Sadly, the 2021 wooden spoon winners have picked up where they left off last year.

The Cats won three of their first four matches before suffering a 12-point loss to Hawthorn last weekend. That said, no player has booted more goals than Tom Hawkins this season. I’m backing Hawkins to fire Geelong to victory on Saturday.

It is worth noting that BetOnline is offering odds of +600 for Hawkins to kick the first goal. Given his early-season form, I recommend taking advantage of that wager.

Brisbane to Beat Gold Coast

The Lions find themselves third on the AFL ladder after winning four of their first five matches. Better still, they are the only team to have kicked 500+ points this year. That tells you everything you need to know about the strength of their attack.

Gold Coast heads into Sunday’s QClash on a run of three losses in four outings. The Suns have already suffered defeats against Melbourne, GWS, and St Kilda this season, so I expect them to register another loss to Brisbane.

Melbourne to Beat Richmond

Can anyone stop Melbourne? Last year, the Demons secured a famous premiership-minor premiership double. This season, they lead the way after five matches following successive wins over the Bulldogs, Gold Coast, Essendon, Port Adelaide, and GWS.

Meanwhile, Richmond is struggling without Dustin Martin. The Tigers have lost three of their five matches in 2022 and conceded 101 points against Adelaide last weekend. Another defeat is on the cards in Round 6.

Sydney to Beat Hawthorn

Sydney crushed West Coast by 63 points last weekend, sealing a fourth victory in five outings. Isaac Heeney (3.2) carried out the bulk of the damage, while Luke Parker, Will Hayward, Hayden McLean, Logan McDonald, and Chad Warner each booted two goals.

Despite beating Geelong in Round 5, the Hawks find themselves four points behind Sydney after losing two of their past three encounters. That’s why I’m backing the Swans to get the better of Hawthorn on Monday.

Essendon to Beat Collingwood

Collingwood comes into Monday’s clash against Essendon on a three-game losing run. Following defeats to Geelong, West Coast, and Brisbane, the Magpies have dropped out of the top eight and are in real danger of falling further down the ladder.

Although the Bombers have lost four of their five matches this season, they can take confidence from their high-scoring win against Adelaide in Round 4. I’m confident that Essendon will return to winning ways against off-form Collingwood.

Top AFL Picks for Round 6

Here are my recommended AFL picks for Round 6. The odds below are courtesy of BetOnline.

GWS Giants vs. St Kilda – St Kilda to Win-141
Fremantle vs. Carlton – Fremantle to Win-144
Hawthorn vs. Sydney – Sydney to Win-163
Essendon vs. Collingwood – Essendon to Win+170

My Round 6 AFL picks comprise two home wins and two road victories. I’m backing Fremantle and Essendon to triumph on home soil. Elsewhere, I’m backing St Kilda and Sydney to win on their travels.

That concludes my AFL betting tips for Round 6. Be sure to join me next week as I share my predictions and picks for Round 7. In the meantime, why not look back at the best players in the league’s history?
