Betting Tips, Picks, and Predictions for AFL Round 14 (June 16-19, 2022)

Round 14 of the 2022 AFL season kicks off this Thursday, June 16, with six matches on the schedule. Richmond and Carlton get the action underway at the MCG before Gold Coast and Adelaide wrap things up on Monday.
Today, I will be sharing my AFL predictions for Round 14. I have also scoured the best Aussie Rules betting sites to find the top AFL picks for Round 14. Before we go any further, though, let’s check out the odds for all six clashes.
AFL Odds for Round 14
- Richmond (1.75) vs. Carlton (2.05)
- St Kilda (1.25) vs. Essendon (4.00)
- Port Adelaide (1.95) vs. Sydney (1.83)
- West Coast (9.00) vs. Geelong (1.06)
- GWS Giants (1.83) vs. Western Bulldogs (1.95)
- Gold Coast (1.18) vs. Adelaide (4.75)
As you can see, Betway anticipates three close-fought encounters in Round 14 – Richmond vs. Carlton, Port Adelaide vs. Sydney, and GWS Giants vs. Western Bulldogs.
Elsewhere, Geelong is heavily favored to see off struggling West Coast. St Kilda and Gold Coast are the other clear favorites this weekend, as they face Essendon and Adelaide, respectively.
Round 14 AFL Predictions
Without further ado, let’s dive into my AFL predictions for Round 14. I will share my thoughts on all six matchups before going over the best AFL bets for Round 14. Ready? Let’s go!
Carlton to Beat Richmond
As I already mentioned, Betway expects this game to be a tight affair. Although fourth-place Carlton leads ninth-place Richmond by eight points on the ladder, both sides head into Thursday’s clash in similar form.
Both Carlton and Richmond lost in Round 6 before enjoying a four-game winning streak. Funnily enough, they both lost in Round 12 before returning to winning ways last weekend.
That said, it is worth remembering that Carlton claimed a 25-win over Richmond back in Round 1. The Blues have also picked up two wins more than the Tigers this season, so I’m backing them to secure all four points on Thursday.
St Kilda to Beat Essendon
Essendon is not in a good place right now.
Not only have the Bombers lost each of their last four matches, but they have also lost seven of their previous eight. As a result, they find themselves third from bottom in the standings – 24 points behind sixth-place St Kilda.
You probably won’t be surprised to learn that I’m backing the Saints to dispatch the Bombers.
Sydney to Beat Port Adelaide
After starting the season with five straight losses, Port Adelaide steadied the ship with a four-game winning streak across April and May. However, they have taken another turn for the worse recently.
The South Australians head into Round 14 on a run of two defeats in three outings, having fallen to Geelong and Richmond. They have also struggled to impact the scoreboard of late, accumulating just 112 points across their recent losses.
On the flip side, the Swans have won three of their past four encounters. After kicking 100+ points in victories over Essendon and Richmond, they produced a hugely impressive display to dispatch high-flying Melbourne last time out.
I expect Port to give the Swans a run for their money on Saturday, but I can see Sydney coming out on top in SA.
Geelong to Beat West Coast
Betway’s odds tell you everything you need to know about this matchup. With Geelong priced at 1.06 and West Coast all the way up at 9.00, it would be a colossal shock if the Cats failed to win on Saturday.
By contrast, Geelong sits fifth in the standings – 28 points clear of West Coast – after picking up eight wins in 12 outings. Better still, the Cats carry a three-match winning streak into Round 14.
In Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins, Geelong possesses two of the top four goalkickers in the comp. I fully expect the deadly duo to humiliate West Coast’s leaky defense.
Western Bulldogs to Beat GWS Giants
Following a shaky start to the campaign, the Bulldogs appear to be heading in the right direction. Granted, they suffered a narrow loss to Geelong last time out. But they secured three successive wins before that.
Meanwhile, the Giants have lost three of their previous five matches. To make matters worse, they have managed to win just four of their 12 clashes in 2022 – meaning only the bottom three teams have claimed fewer points this year.
I expect Saturday’s game to be a relatively even encounter between two unpredictable sides. That said, the Dogs should have enough firepower to overcome GWS.
Gold Coast to Beat Adelaide
All of a sudden, Gold Coast is within touching distance of the top eight.
The Suns made a poor start to the season, losing five of their first seven matches. But an eye-catching run of four wins in five encounters has catapulted them up the ladder. Talk about miraculous turnarounds!
The Queenslanders have racked up 100+ points in each of their past two victories, so I’m backing them to dispatch off-form Adelaide.
Top AFL Picks for Round 14
- Richmond vs. Carlton – Carlton to Win (2.05)
- St Kilda vs. Essendon – St Kilda -24.5 Handicap (1.90)
- Gold Coast vs. Adelaide – Gold Coast -30.5 Handicap (1.90)
In my eyes, odds of 2.05 for Carlton to beat Richmond are too tasty to ignore. The Blues have won five of their past six games to open up an eight-point lead over the Tigers. Plus, they beat Richmond by 25 points earlier this season.
St Kilda is priced at 1.25 to beat Essendon, so I recommend throwing the -24.5 handicap into the mix. The Saints have won three of their last four games, while the Bombers head into Round 14 on a four-game losing run.
I also recommend adding the -30.5 handicap onto the Gold Coast win. The Suns have won four of their past five outings, notching 100+ points in each of their previous two. By contrast, the Crows have lost five of their last six games.
