Betting Tips, Picks, and Predictions for AFL Round 12 – June 3-5 (2022)

| May 30, 2022 8:17 am PDT

The first byes of the 2022 AFL season begin this weekend. That means Round 12 comprises just six matches, with St Kilda, Carlton, Richmond, Port Adelaide, GWS, and Essendon sitting out.

The top three teams are in action, though. Fresh from condemning the Demons to their first defeat of the year, Fremantle faces another tricky test on Sunday, June 5, as Brisbane heads to Optus Stadium.

Are you looking for picks, betting tips, and predictions for AFL Round 12? If so, I suggest you keep reading. Before we go any further, let’s check out the AFL betting odds for Round 12.

AFL Odds for Round 12

  • Western Bulldogs (1.95) vs. Geelong (1.83)
  • Adelaide (1.20) vs. West Coast (4.50)
  • Gold Coast (1.08) vs. North Melbourne (7.50)
  • Melbourne (1.30) vs. Sydney (3.50)
  • Hawthorn (2.75) vs. Collingwood (1.44)
  • Fremantle (1.70) vs. Brisbane (2.15)

Adelaide, Gold Coast, and Melbourne are the bookmakers’ heavy home favorites for Round 12. Elsewhere, Collingwood is favored to beat Hawthorn at the MCG.

As you can see, Betway believes that Western Bulldogs vs. Geelong and Fremantle vs. Brisbane will be close-fought battles. The Bulldogs trail Geelong by four points, while Freo and Brisbane are separated by the same margin.

It’s time to dive into my AFL predictions for Round 12.

Western Bulldogs vs. Geelong Prediction

The Western Bulldogs racked up a whopping 161 points as they crushed West Coast by 101 points last weekend. Aaron Naughton kicked four goals in the rout, meaning he now sits sixth on the Coleman Medal leaderboard.

The Bulldogs find themselves eighth on the AFL ladder after winning each of their past three matches. As a result, they are only four points behind Geelong.

As for the Cats, they claimed a 42-point victory over Adelaide last time out. Following defeats against Fremantle and St Kilda in recent rounds, they appear to be heading in the right direction again.

That said, it feels like the Dogs have a ton of momentum behind them right now. Having won each of their last three outings – and five of their previous seven – they will be confident of extending their winning streak to four games on Friday.

Prediction for Western Bulldogs vs. Geelong: Western Bulldogs to Win

Adelaide vs. West Coast Prediction

You only need to take a quick glance at the current AFL ladder to understand why I’m backing Adelaide to beat West Coast.

Granted, the Crows sit fifteenth in the standings after winning just three of their 11 matches this year. But the Eagles find themselves rock bottom of the ladder following a run of ten losses in 11 encounters. Need I say more?

To make matters worse for the Eagles, they have conceded more points than anyone else this season. Another heavy defeat is on the cards here.

Prediction for Adelaide vs. West Coast: Adelaide to Win

Gold Coast vs. North Melbourne Prediction

Like West Coast, North Melbourne sits at the foot of the standings with only four points. The Kangaroos collected the wooden spoon in 2021, and it wouldn’t be a shock if they defended the unwanted title in 2022.

On the flip side, Gold Coast chalked up 121 points in a 67-point thrashing of Hawthorn in Round 11. Malcolm Rosas and Mabior Chil both booted three goals, while Touk Miller dominated the midfield.

Things were looking pretty bleak for the Suns when they suffered three straight losses across April and May, but they have since picked up three wins in four outings. They shouldn’t struggle to dispatch lowly North this weekend.

Prediction for Gold Coast vs. North Melbourne: Gold Coast to Win

Melbourne vs. Sydney Prediction

Believe it or not, Melbourne lost a game of footy last weekend.

After kicking the season off with a ten-match winning streak, the Demons finally fell to Fremantle in Round 11. Still, they remain four points clear at the AFL summit and are well placed to return to winning ways in Round 12.

Meanwhile, Sydney edged out Richmond by six points last weekend. Although the Swans have won two of their last three matches, they have also lost three of their previous five. Consequently, they trail Melbourne by 12 points.

I’m backing the Dees to bounce straight back against Sydney. Needless to say, they were not at their best against Freo. But they are the defending premiers for a reason.

Prediction for Melbourne vs. Sydney: Melbourne to Win

Hawthorn vs. Collingwood Prediction

It’s safe to say that Hawthorn is not in a good place right now. Following last weekend’s thrashing at the hands of the Suns, the Hawks head into Round 12 on a run of five losses in six matches.

When you look at the bigger picture,
the Hawks have lost seven of their previous nine outings. They are also one of six teams to have conceded 1,000+ points this year, underlining their defensive issues.

By contrast, Collingwood comes into Round 12 on the back of two straight victories. The Magpies beat Fremantle in Round 10 before seeing off Carlton in Round 11, meaning they have dispatched two top-five teams in as many weeks.

It is also worth noting that the Pies have won four of their past six encounters. With that in mind, I can see them getting the better of off-from Hawthorn.

Prediction for Hawthorn vs. Collingwood: Collingwood to Win

Fremantle vs. Brisbane Prediction

It goes without saying that Fremantle will be brimming with belief after ending Melbourne’s 100% record last time out. Now, they will turn their attention to chasing down second-place Brisbane.

The Dockers have won eight of their 11 matches this year, while the Lions have won nine. Although Brisbane has outscored Freo – and every other side – in 2022, the Dockers boast a far superior defensive record.

This is destined to be a tight clash, but I can see the Western Australians overcoming the Queenslanders. Fremantle will be full of confidence following last weekend’s victory over the reigning premiers.

Prediction for Fremantle vs. Brisbane: Fremantle to Win

Top AFL Picks for Round 12

Western Bulldogs vs. Geelong – Western Bulldogs to Win1.95
Adelaide vs. West Coast – Adelaide to Win (-27.5 Handicap)1.90
Gold Coast vs. North Melbourne – Gold Coast to Win (-42.5 Handicap)1.90

I’m backing the Bulldogs to beat Geelong since you can almost double your money. The Dogs are on a roll at the moment, so I can see them collecting their fourth win in a row this weekend.

Adelaide is priced at just 1.20 to beat West Coast. For that reason, I recommend throwing the -27.5 handicap into the mix. Let’s not forget that West Coast has conceded more points than any other team this year.

Last but not least, I expect Gold Coast to thrash lowly North Melbourne. The Suns put 121 points past Hawthorn in Round 11, so I’m confident that they will win by at least 42.5 points against the Kangaroos.
