Betting Preview for Joe Smith Jr. vs Maxim Vlasov – Odds, Predictions, and Best Bets (February 13, 2021)

| January 21, 2021 1:24 pm PDT

Boxing’s blue-collar hero Joe Smith Jr. takes on the super-tough Maxim Vlasov on Saturday, February 13, for the For vacant WBO light heavyweight title.

The action goes down at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Paradise, Nevada. Smith, known as “The Irish Bomber,” is looking to make this an explosive one. But “The Kill” should not be taken lightly.

I’m going to break down the odds for Smith vs. Vlasov, as well as the best bets for the fight. If you’re looking to gamble on the bout, I’ll be listing three wagers for the title fight that can help your chances. I will be making my prediction for the fight and revealing my pick for what should be a contender for boxing’s best fight of 2021.

So, let’s get down to business by starting with who wins.

Who Wins – Smith or Vlasov?

  • Joe Smith Jr. by Decision

My prediction for Smith vs. Vlasov is that it will an awesome fight between two guys prepared to stand at trade in the center of the ring.

Smith, who balances life as a boxer with toiling away as a laborer for a construction company, has a very healthy resume heading into this fight. He has been beaten just three times, with two of those losses coming against the awesome Dmitry Bivol and the talented Sullivan Barrera.

I’ll explain why I don’t see this fight ending a knockout a little later. First, here’s the best Smith vs. Vlasov odds online right now.

Odds for Smith vs. Vlasov

Joe Smith Jr. to Win-355
Dmitry Vlasov to Win+280

Smith’s odds to beat Vlasov come in at -355 with BetOnline.

I expect these odds to shorten as we approach fight night. As such, I would recommend placing your Smith vs. Vlasov bets now if you are gambling on the fight.

I expect the ever-popular Smith will see a lot of action in his favor over the coming weeks. I don’t see his odds getting better as a result.

A moneyline bet on Vlasov to beat Smith will get you odds of +280.

If you are picking The Kill to win the fight, Vlasov’s odds will likely improve closer to his ring walk.

The Russian has never been knocked. From 48 fights, he has lost just three, including a decision to Poland’s Krzysztof Glowacki in November 2018.

Vlasov will have ring rust to shake off, for sure. But will his chin hold up under the power of the American?

Best Smith vs. Vlasov Bets

  • Smith to Win
  • Smith to Win by Decision
  • Fight Over 8.5 Rounds

The first of my top bets for Smith vs. Vlasov to look at is for the former to win.

I shared the odds for Smith to beat Vlasov (-355) above, and can’t say that the bookies have got things right again.

Smith is the sharper, more athletic of the two. He will have the advantage when it comes to the jab and can really test the Russian in the center of the ring. Vlasov probably has the advantage in hand speed, but he will be a little too rusty to enforce himself on the American.

Given Vlasov’s great chin and solid defense, Smith to Win by Decision seems one of the best ways to make money betting on Smith vs. Vlasov. Odds are not available for this bet just yet, but make sure to check out the props for the fight with the top online sportsbooks for boxing a little closer to the fight.

On the subject of Vlasov’s toughness, the Fight to End Over 8.5 Rounds is another bet to consider.

While Joe has the power to knock Vlasov out, especially with the Russian’s rustiness, I don’t see this fight ending early. The last fighter to beat Bernard Hopkins, Smith should have too much for Vlasov on the night.

Now, Vlasov is also more than capable of dropping Smith, but once again, I’m not convinced that the fight ends inside the distance. Here’s how I see the fight going.

Why I’m Picking Smith to Beat Vlasov

The American everyman vs. the intimidating Russian. It kind of has a Rocky 4 ring to it, huh?

But more than this being a battle between a Philadelphian “Italian Stallion” and a Soviet wrecking ball, this should be a tactical faceoff that could come down to who can stick to their game plan and control the tempo of the fight.

As I touched upon in the odds and bets for Smith vs. Vlasov, I’m a little concerned about the Russian’s lack of activity. He hasn’t fought since November 2018, and the lack of ring time is something that could very well stand in the way of him fighting to his best abilities.

Now, that doesn’t mean Vlasov cannot win this fight. Technically, he is a very smart operator with good movement, great hand speed, and dangerous counters. If he can fool Smith into overextending, he might just surprise us.

But I don’t think Smith is going to be that desperate. He’ll be measured, patient, and build up a commanding lead from behind a superior jab.

Therefore, my prediction for Smith vs. Vlasov is a decision win for the American.

And That’s It

I’m picking Joe Smith to beat Maxim Vlasov by decision. But it should be one hell of a fight.

Of course, Smith vs. Vlasov is one of several big fights heading our way over the next few months. As usual, I’ll be providing betting content through our boxing blog, and boxing picks channels, so keep an eye on both.
