Betting Preview for the 2021 Sentry TOC With Odds, Predictions, and Best Bets

| January 4, 2021 10:54 am PDT

Thanks to a tweak in the qualification process, this year’s TOC boasts its strongest field to date. The limited schedule in 2020 prompted the tour to extend invites to all 30 men who qualified for the season-ending TOUR Championship (along with all PGA Tour winners from the past calendar year).

The result is eight of the top-nine golfers in the world choosing to kick their year off in Maui. Of the 45 eligible competitors, only three “opted-out” (Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Jim Herman).

Take a peek at the odds before jumping into some Sentry Tournament of Champions predictions.

2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions Odds

DJ, JT, and Rahm are all slam-dunk picks for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. The problem is the top sports betting sites have priced the aforementioned trio accordingly.

The golf world can’t wait to see what Bryson DeChambeau has in store as the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort is the ideal layout for the “Mad Scientist” to put his new RAD driver to the test. After posting a recent IG video breaching 206 mph ball speed with his latest weapon of choice, look out for some 400+ yard bombs on the island.

Sentry Tournament of Champions Pick to Win

Dustin Johnson has been an unstoppable locomotive on the golf course since August. His video-game-like play has captured the attention of everyone, and rightfully so, but he’s not the only guy who played lights-out during that stretch.

Patrick Reed teed it up six times from September through December and produced some pretty stellar results.

Date Tournament 72-Hole Score Finish
9/4-9/7 TOUR Championship 71-66-70-65 (-8) T7
9/17-9/20 US Open 66-70-77-74 (+7) T13
10/8-10/11 BMW PGA Championship 70-68-68-68 (-14) T3
10/22-10/25 Zozo Championship 70-63-71-68 (-16) T14
11/12-11/15 Masters 68-68-71-72 (-9) T10
12/10-12/13 DP World Tour Championship 70-64-71-70 (-13) T3

A sharp outing in Dubai last month alludes to Reed being “on form,” and let’s not forget about his affinity for this venue.

Patrick won the TOC in 2015 and has finished runner-up here twice (2016, 2020). For good measure, “Captain America” placed 6th in Maui in 2017.

The generous landing areas off the tee bode well for Reed’s erratic driving, and the dramatic contours of the putting surfaces allow his creativity to shine. Oh yeah, and he happens to be one of the best chippers and putters on the PGA Tour.

Best Bets for the Sentry Tournament of Champions

I’ll hit on some sleepers and reveal my favorite matchup bets in dedicated posts. Here is where I’ll leave you with two more Sentry TOC predictions that can be translated into bets.

Xander Schauffele to Finish Top 5

You think Xander Schauffele has an eye for the Plantation Course? After finishing 22nd in his debut (2018), the 6th-ranked player in the world won here in 2019 and finished runner-up in 2020. This includes tying a course record (-11, 62) when he chased down Gary Woodland in the final round.

Harris English to Finish Top 10

Harris English played marvelously during the 2019-20 campaign and has picked up right where left off in the new “Super Season.” To be more specific, the former Bulldog has racked up four top-10s in six starts, and that doesn’t even include the whipping he and Matt Kuchar put on the field at the QBE Shootout.
