Betting Preview for the 2020 Zozo Championship With Odds, Predictions, and Best Bets

| October 19, 2020 12:59 pm PST

78 of the world’s best players saunter into the base of the Santa Monica Mountains to take on Sherwood Country Club. It’ll be the first time we see Tiger competing since he fired 73-77 to miss the cut at Winged Foot. It’ll be the last time we see Woods until he defends his title at Augusta.

Starting with this week’s odds, here’s a betting preview filled with Zozo Championship predictions.

2020 Zozo Championship Odds to Win

The top golf betting sites aren’t giving much love to Jason Kokrak (+5000) after his triumph at Shadow Creek. Kokrak put on a complete performance at the CJ Cup – leading the field in GIR and gaining more strokes on the greens (10.3) than any player since the restart.

Armed with five top-17 finishes across his last six starts, don’t be surprised if last week’s winner carries his superb form into Thousand Oaks.

Zozo Championship Prediction and Pick – 2020 Winner

Top-12s in each of his last three starts hints that Justin Thomas is on the verge of breaking through for the 14th time in his career. Thomas seemed to lose interest on Sunday at Shadow Creek once he learned that Kokrak and Schauffele were off to the races, so don’t read too much into his final-round 74.

Instead, focus on the fact that JT ranked 14th in driving accuracy in Vegas and can use his driver as a weapon at Sherwood. Last season’s PGA Tour leader in SG: Tee-to-Green is trending nicely heading into Augusta, but I’m hesitant to back Thomas to win the 2020 Masters.

I have a hunch Justin might peak a bit too early – specifically this week in SoCal.

Head over to Bovada to lock in this Zozo Championship pick. JT is hanging out with a bit of extra incentive.

More Predictions and Best Bets

Picking Justin Thomas to hoist the trophy is just the beginning. Here are some other Zozo Championship predictions.

Rory McIlroy to Finish Top 10

Rory’s week in Sin City was stained by playing his final five holes in five-over-par, but there are lots of positives to take away. McIlroy topped the field in SG: Off-the-Tee and ranked 10th in putts per GIR. It’s quite evident he’s rounding into form.

Patrick Cantlay to Finish Top 10

The Los Angeles native returns to his roots following a disappointing week at the CJ Cup. However, lifting the hood on Cantlay’s statistics at Shadow Creek suggests that it was dismal putting that held him back. He swung it fine. Patrick finally caught fire on Sunday holing seven birdies – putting him in line to be a fixture on the 2020 Zozo Championship leaderboard.

Matthew Wolff to Finish Top 20

Lots of golf bettors were burned by Matthew Wolff and are unlikely to back him at Sherwood. They won’t take the time to do a little homework and find out that Matthew grew up in Agoura Hills and starred at Westlake High School – literally five miles away from Sherwood CC.

Joaquin Niemann to Finish Top 20

Since finishing 3rd at the BMW Championship to surge into East Lake, Joaquin Nieman has continued to show up at the big events. The 21-year-old will arrive in Los Angeles on the heels of finishing 23rd at the US Open, 13th at Shriners, and 6th at the CJ Cup.

Tiger Woods to Struggle

I’m rooting for Tiger Woods to play well, but the more likely scenario is he disappoints. Two competitive rounds since the end of August – that’s concerning for sure.

What really worries me about betting on Tiger at the 2020 Zozo Championship is the cooler temperatures expected to settle in. By Sunday, the high in Thousand Oaks is 65 with a low of 47 (degrees Fahrenheit). Not exactly “tailor-made” for Woods’ current situation.

Based on the odds that are available, here are my best bets for the Zozo Championship.

  • Rory McIlroy to Finish in the Top 10 (+125)
  • Matthew Wolff to Finish in the Top 20 (+100)
  • Joaquin Nieman to Finish in the Top 20 (+138)
