Betting Preview for the 2020 Masters With Prediction and Pick

| November 9, 2020 11:33 am PDT

The 2020 Masters is finally here.

No more speculating on what Bryson will do or how Tiger will play. No more wondering what the golf course will look like, how firm it’ll be, or how playing this tournament in the fall ultimately affects the scoring.

It’s time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the wall-to-wall coverage.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget to lock in your Masters picks.

Here’s a quick glance at the odds to get you started, followed by my 2020 Masters prediction.

2020 Masters Odds to Win

BetOnline has just 28 golfers priced at +8000 or lower. Jordan Spieth is locked (temporarily) but is available in the +4000 range at other top sites for betting on the 2020 Masters.

If you are wondering how the Masters lines for Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka have been altered following their strong performances in Houston, here’s your answer.

Masters Odds (Pre-Houston Open) Masters Odds (Post-Houston Open)
Dustin Johnson +1300 +900
Brooks Koepka +2000 +1600

I didn’t forget to list Phil Mickelson – he’s lurking way down at +10000 in the “long shot” territory. The reason you don’t see Sergio Garcia’s value in the Masters odds is because the 2017 Green Jacket winner was forced to withdraw.

Can Tiger Win the 2020 Masters?

As much as I would love to see it, it’s almost unfathomable to think that the Big Cat can defend his title at Augusta in 2020. I offered insight and specific details as to exactly why Tiger Woods won’t win the 2020 Masters, but I’ll quickly highlight the “meat and potatoes.”

  • One start since the US Open (T72 at the Zozo Championship)
  • Zero top-35 finishes since the restart in June
  • Unreliable putting (-.634 SG: Putting in 2019-20)
  • 88% GIR last season (156th on the PGA Tour)

A longer and softer golf course (like we’re expected to see this week) would typically play right into Tiger’s hands. However, his current form coupled with being a month shy of turning 45 means that ship has sailed.

Masters Pick to Win

Bryson seems like he’s a lock to contend. It’s hard to envision a scenario in which Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele aren’t in the mix come Sunday afternoon.

These Masters predictions are fairly obvious.

With that being said, Justin Thomas is the guy to me who’s most primed for a victory.

Runner-up the last time out at Sherwood, JT arrives in the Peach State with four straight top-12s and a boatload of confidence. Not only is my 2020 Masters pick long, a great putter, and strapped with a fabulous short game, but Justin’s “approach game” is top-notch.

They say Augusta National is a “second-shot” golf course, so why not pick the guy who’s the best “second-shot” player in the field.
