Top MMA DFS Picks and Lineup Advice for UFC 272 – (March 5, 2022)

It’s fight week. That means that it’s time to reveal my top MMA DFS picks for UFC 272 and a lineup that I’m hoping hits it out of the park.

This week’s DFS MMA lineup for UFC 272 is going to focus heavily on the main card of Saturday’s event in Vegas. Headlined by a whopper of a fight between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, the third “numbered” card of the year is stacked with top fights.

Does that mean you should ignore the prelims when building the best daily fantasy sports lineup for UFC 272? Well, how about no. Believe it or not, the quality of the card speaks for itself, and you should be exploring the best MMA DFS picks for this Saturday, regardless of where the fights sit.

So, without further ado, let’s get stuck into my top UFC 272 DFS MMA picks and lineup starting with the main event. 

If you’re familiar with my approach to making UFC DFS MMA picks, you’ll know that I tend to make three top choices to complement my overall lineup.

I’m not deviating from that method this week. My motto is if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and I’m confident that this is the best way to approach the fights.

There’s no getting away from the fact that this is a huge event, despite no real title being on the line. The first thing to tackle is, well, who is the smarter of these MMA DFS picks for UFC 272 in the main event?

Here goes…

If you were expecting me to crown my top MMA DFS picks for UFC 272 with Masvidal, you were wrong. 

Covington is simply the smarter choice in this fight. Priced at $9,400 with Draftkings, some might see “Chaos” as an expensive choice. I don’t. As controversial as he may be, the fact remains that he is the better fighter in this matchup.

I’m not sure that any fighter not named Kamaru Usman can beat this guy. And as much I’ve been an OG fan of “Street Jesus” since his Strikeforce days, he just does not have the weapons to deal with Covington. This is one of the top UFC fights to bet on in March 2022, but I can only see it going one way. 

Colby offers far more upside than a guy that is relying on catching his former friend and roommate with a fight-ending shot.

If you’re looking to build a top DFS lineup for UFC 272, I’d advise skipping on Masvidal. Again, I’ve been a big fan since way back when, but he is overrated. At 37, he’s not getting any better.

The second of my top UFC DFS picks for this weekend is Rafael dos Anjos.

Like Masvidal, RDA is getting on a little. But in his 160-pound matchup with Renato Moicano — a former featherweight that has admittedly looked pretty good in his 3-1 run at lightweight — strength, and conditioning may prove decisive. 

Moicano has taken this fight on super short notice. That plays into RDA’s hands and is a major factor for his inclusion on my list of the top MMA DFS lineup for UFC 272. 

Remember, all three of Moicano’s wins at 155 have come by way of submission. Tapping out dos Anjos, who is 4th degree BJJ blackbelt, would be a major upset. 

Remember, dos Anjos has only ever been submitted once in his 43-fight career. And that was a jaw injury suffered in his fight with Clay Guida back in 2010. With the extra weight and the fact that RDA looked solid at 170-pounds, Moicano is not the smartest addition to any recommended UFC 272 DFS lineup.

Edson Barboza is one of the greatest strikers in UFC history. He’s a legend. But he’s not one of my top MMA DFS picks for UFC 272. 

Instead, I’m opting for the unbeaten Mitchell to get a big name on his resume. He might not be the most exciting UFC DFS pick for this weekend, but he’s pretty convincing, nonetheless.

Here’s my best UFC 272 DFS lineup for Saturday’s fights.

I’ve stated my claims for the top three of the bunch. But added to my daily fantasy sports lineup for UFC 272 are Kevin Holland, Devonte Smith, and Maryna Moroz.

Devonte Smith is a solid UFC 272 MMA DFS pick at $8,500. Ludovic Klein is on a two-fight skid, and Smith’s 10 KO/TKOs from 11 wins inside the cage offers major oomph. 

Finally, I like Maryna Moroz as one of the top MMA DFS sleepers for UFC 272. Mariya Agapova should grow into her promise as a top prospect, but her propensity for crumbling under pressure has not gone unnoticed to the keen eye. 

There is an exciting alternative to hitting my best MMA DFS lineups for UFC 272. That is, betting on the fights.
