Best Horse Racing Bets for Wednesday, June 2, 2021

I’m going with races from Evangeline Downs, Parx Racing, and Penn National Race Course for my Wednesday picks. I found lots of underdogs at all three tracks, although nothing in the pay-off-the-Cadillac range, I’m sorry to say.
Still, I found all but two of the nine races I cover to be probable wins for second-and third-favored entries. Hey, a win’s a win, amirite?
Don’t forget that you can see all the races at all three tracks—along with wagering options and morning-line odds—with a visit to one of our recommended online racebooks.
Good luck!
My Wednesday Picks for Evangeline Down
Starting on the turf with race two—a one-mile run for three-year-olds and upward—I’m calling the win for the second-favored Peacock Kitten at 2/1.
This six-year-old horse finished in the money for eight of his 13 starts, winning three, and while the 8/5 favorite in this race has a slight statistical advantage in the wins vs. starts department, Peacock Kitten has consistently higher speed figures.
Peacock Kitten is trained by relative newcomer Rylee Grudzien for BW and HTS Stables and Jason G. Grudzien—Rylee’s father and trainer. Rylee has tapped Casey Fusilier to ride for this run.
Moving back the main track for race seven, a one-miler for Louisiana-bred three-year-olds and upward—I’m betting on the 8/5 morning-line favorite, specifically, the first half of the 1/1A coupled entry Beauregard.
Ridden by veteran jockey Timothy Thornton for this race, the three-year-old gelding finished in the money for three of his six career starts.
Beauregard is trained by top 100-ranked Karl Broberg for owner End Zone Athletics, Inc.
Race eight is a seven-furlong sprint for three-year-olds and upward, and I’m buying a win ticket on the third-favored entry (at 9/2)—Tiz the Dude.
The three-year-old colt is in training to owner Rylee Grudzien, who has veteran jockey Diego Saenz in the irons for this race. For the record: Tiz the Dude moneyed three of his eight starts, winning two.
Wednesday’s Picks for Parx Racing
In race three—a six-panel main-track run for fillies and mares three years old and upward—my money’s on the morning line’s 9/2 (third-favored) Twirling Liz, ridden by Ruben Silvera.
This five-year-old mare finished in the money 11 of her 18 career starts, winning three, and while her record is quite similar to that of the morning-line favorite, her wins are more recent, as are her money finishes.
Twirling Liz is trained by Kathleen A. Demasi for owners Pewter Stable and Spedale Family Racing, LLC.
Moving to the turf course for race seven—a 1-1/16 mile grass run for fillies and mares three years old and upward—my money’s on the second-favored (at 4/1) Monaco Princess.
This five-year-old mare, trained by Jamie Ness for owners Morris E. Kernan, Jr. and Jagger Inc., finished in the money 13 of her 27 career starts, winning six, which gives her a solid statistical advantage in this 12-horse field.
Ness has tapped Ruben Silvera to pilot Monaco Princess for this ride.
Race ten is a one-mile and 70 yard run on the main track for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I’m betting on the third-favored (at 5/1) Lean On E, with Luis M. Ocasio in the irons.
This four-year-old filly finished in the money four of her eight career starts, winning three, giving her a significant statistical advantage over the morning-line favorite—and the rest of this eight-horse field, for that matter.
Lean On E is owned by Over The Moon Racing and is trained by Louis C. Linder, Jr., who won the 2018 Laurel Futurity Stakes with Order and Law at Laurel Park Racecourse.
Wednesday Picks for Penn National Race Course
Starting with race six—a six-furlong main track run for fillies and mares three years old and upward—I’m betting all two of my dollars one the third-favored (at 7/2) Justalittleviolent.
This five-year-old mare moneyed two of her three career starts, winning one. Statistically, she’s in the lead position in this tightly-matched six-horse field.
Trained by longtime track veteran Todd M. Beattie for Tommy Town Thoroughbreds LLC, Justalittleviolent will be ridden in this race by top jockey Julio A. Hernandez.
We move to the turf for race six, a one-mile and 70 yard grass run for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I’m not as impressed with my pick for this run as I’d like to be, but in this particular field, the horse stands out.
I’m talking about the morning line’s 5/2 second choice (and my first), Perfect Hideaway, ridden by Julio A. Hernandez.
This three-year-old filly moneyed three of her six career starts, winning one in November 2020—her second attempt at graduating from the maiden runs. She’s moneyed twice since then, both in 2021.
Her speed figures have remained steady throughout her brief career–she’ll do.
Perfect Hideaway is trained by Todd M. Beattie for owners Thomas G. McClay, Dennis Sweigart, and Salvatore Cullari.
For race eight—a six-furlong main track run for three-year-olds and upward—my money is on the 2/1 morning-line favorite, His Name Is Sue.
This six-year-old gelding finished in the money 20 of his 32 career starts, winning 11. Looking at his 2021 starts, he’s even more of a standout: Five money finishes in six starts, three of them wins. He’s on a roll.
His Name Is Sue is trained by Timothy C. Kreiser for Bush Racing Stables. Kreiser has veteran jockey William P. Otero in the irons for this run, who’s been aboard for His Name Is Sue’s two most recent races.
