Best Horse Racing Bets for Friday, October 16, 2020
Keeneland Race Course headlines a Grade III stakes race, and Santa Anita and Belmont Park offer us plenty of opportunities to make some profitable wagers for the Friday races.
Before I move on to the picks and predictions, remember that you can find the full race cards for all the tracks I cover with a visit to one of our top online horse race wagering sites.
Now, read on for the summary of my picks and predictions for Friday, October 16, 2020.
Today’s Picks and Predictions for Belmont Park
- Race 1: Maxwell Esquire 5/2 (win)
- Race 7: Secure Connection 5/1 (win)
- Race 9: Key Biscayne 3/1 (win)
- Race 9: Pandamom 15/1 (show)
Belmont Park was my favorite today for underdogs in the morning line choices. I found second-favored winners in races 1 and 9, and a third-favored winner in race 7. I guess the trade-off here is that I could only find one long-odds entry worthy of a value show bet (race 9). As the great philosopher Steven Wright says: “You can’t have everything. Where would you put it?”

Picks for Keeneland Race Course
- Race 7: Explorer 5/2 (win)
- Race 7: Grandal 12/1 (across the board)
- Race 8: Honest Mischief 9/5 (win)
- Race 8: Bon Raison 15/1 (show)
- Race 9: Antoinette 3/1 (win)
- Race 9: Sugar Fix 8/1 (across the board)
And besides bringing us the Pin Oak Valley View Stakes (Grade III) in race 9, Keeneland Race Course favored me with a multitude of interesting wagers, including two across-the-board flyers (races 7 and 9) and a solid 12/1 bargain show bet in race 7. Then I found myself agreeing with the morning line in every race, because, you know, math.

My Picks Today for Santa Anita Park
- Race 1: Cassie Belle 6/5 (win)
- Race 5: Quick 5/2 (win)
- Race 5: Out of Balance 15/1 (show)
- Race 7: Microrithms 6/5 (win)
After all those underdogs and fancy bets I found at the other two tracks, Santa Anita turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Right off, I saw that the heavy favorites in each of the three races I reviewed actually deserved that status, and so I wound up making the morning line’s choice in each unanimous. And I only found a single bargain show bet to tout (race 5).
