Best Horse Racing Bets for Saturday, January 9, 2021

All three of the tracks I chose for review for Saturday — Aqueduct Racetrack, Fair Grounds Race Course, and Gulfstream Park — had stakes races on their schedules, so of course, I reviewed those along with the other big-purse races.

From the ungraded Say, Florida Sandy, and the Nelson J. Menard Memorial Stakes races to the Grade III Tropical Turf Stakes, Saturday’s wagering opportunities include plenty of underdogs, sleepers, and longshot moneymakers.

With the five-horse field of the ungraded Say Florida Sandy stakes race moving it up to race 3 of the schedule, our wagering day starts with a bang — even though I found myself agreeing with the morning line (and the rest of the Free World) about the probable winner. Okay, so we won’t get rich on that race.

Still, I found a second-favored underdog in race 5, and a 20/1 longshot with show potential in race 8, so maybe we’ll be buying all our friends those Cadillacs, after all.

I found a couple of sleepers hiding in the stats for races 6 and 8, but just as importantly, all three of my choices for wins at Fair Grounds are morning line underdogs.

And of course, there’s that 20/1 longshot in race 9 to make bank on with a value show wager. Life is good.

Gulfstream had it all for us Saturday: A Grade III stakes race (the Tropical Turf Stakes, aka race 10), a third-favored underdog begging for a win ticket (race 3), a 6/1 sleeper in race 4, and a 15/1 long-odds value show bet in race 10. Does it get better than this? I submit that it does not.
