Best Horse Racing Bets for Saturday, January 30, 2021

| January 29, 2021 3:40 pm PDT

Lots of graded stakes races for review for Saturday, including two important steps along the 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby: The Holy Bull Stakes (Grade III) at Gulfstream Park and the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (Grade III) at Santa Anita Park.

I also included Aqueduct in my tracks for review for Saturday because it was headlining the Grade III Toboggan Stakes among its other eight regular maiden, allowance, and claiming matches.

Because of all that wagering goodness, we should probably dive right into the summary of my picks and predictions for Saturday, January 30, 2021.

Good luck!

Saturday Picks and Predictions for Aqueduct Racetrack

  • Race 4: Share the Ride 8/5 (win)
  • Race 8: South Africa 5/2 (win)
  • Race 8: Danebury 10/1 (show)
  • Race 9: Clemenza 5/2 (win)
  • Race 9: Beckenbauer 50/1 (show)

Aqueduct gets to the main event pretty quickly in race 4 (aka the Toboggan Stakes), and I stick with the 8/5 morning line favorite, not because I have to, but because it’s the right thing to do.

I backed the second-favored (5/2) entry in race 8 as well as a value show bet at 10/1. Then, in race 9, I found myself besties with the morning line again, backing the favorite — and that’s when I spotted that 50/1 longshot with an actual shot at finishing in the money against this field. Yes, life is good.

My Saturday Predictions for Gulfstream Park

  • Race 4: Never Surprised 9/5 (win)
  • Race 4: Chao 12/1 (show)
  • Race 6: Drain the Clock 5/2 (win)
  • Race 9: Zaajel 7/5 (win)
  • Race 9: Dial to Win 20/1 (show)
  • Race 10: Con Lima 5/2 (win)
  • Race 10: Lionessofbrittany 10/1 (show)
  • Race 11: Tarantino 8/1 (win)

Gulfstream Park apparently adheres to the philosophy that nothing succeeds like excess — the track brings us no fewer than five Grade III stakes races on their 12-race card for Saturday, including the Holy Bull Stakes. I reviewed all five stakes races, of course.

I also found a second-favored entry in race 6, but otherwise, I stuck by the morning lines predictions.

Oh, and I also discovered assorted long-odds show-ticket contenders in races 4, 9, and 10.

My find of the day, however, was the 8/1 sleeper in the Holy Bull Stakes, a horse with more than enough statistical evidence to support a win prediction.

Santa Anita Park Picks for Saturday

  • Race 1: Bossy Mama 4/1 (win)
  • Race 5: King Guillermo 2/1 (win)
  • Race 5: Zestful 15/1 (show)
  • Race 7: Spielberg 7/2 (win)

Santa Anita Park was nothing but an underdog city for me, including the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (Grade III)

(aka race 7), where I backed a third-favored prospect in races 1. I also called race 7 for a third-favored entry but went with the second-favored blast from the past (King Guillermo) in race 5.

And though I found a value show bet at 15/1 in race 5, I could not find another long-odds horse to recommend. Sad-face emoji.
