Best Horse Racing Bets for Saturday, February 6, 2021
Between the three tracks I chose to review for Saturday, I count nine stakes races, with eight of them graded, two of them prep races along the 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby, and one a prep race for the distaff Kentucky Oaks this year.
And while I cover the stakes races for those three tracks here, remember that you can find the entire race cards of all three tracks at one of our best horse racing betting sites.
So let’s get right to the summary of my reviews for all nine stakes races (with some lagniappe tossed in at Aqueduct) on Saturday, February 6, 2021.
Saturday’s Predictions for Aqueduct Racetrack
- Race 1: Clever Fellow 6/5 (win)
- Race 1: Shinjuku 10/1 (show)
- Race 7: Mabel Island 5/2 (win)
- Race 7: Dublinornothin 4/1 (across the board)
- Race 8: Capo Kane 3/1 (win)
- Race 8: Civil War 50/1 (show)
Aqueduct was the only track where every race I reviewed was not a stakes race, simply because Aqueduct is only hosting a single stakes race Saturday — but it’s a big one: the Withers Stakes, a Grade III stakes race that serves as a prep race for the 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby, which is a formal scoring system of the top finishers of dozens of qualifying races that leads eventually to finding the best 18 starters for the Kentucky Derby on May 1.
For the Withers, I picked the second-favored (3/1) Capo Kane, and I also discovered a 50/1 longshot with a serious chance at a money finish, even in this field.
For the other two races — a maiden and an allowance race, respectively — I discovered the morning line favorites were, in fact, the best choices. Still, I managed to find a fair-to-middlin’ 10/1 show ticket in race 1, as well as a rare 4/1 entry worthy of an across the board wage in race 7.

My Picks for Saturday at Santa Anita Park
- Race 3: Kalypso 5/2 (win)
- Race 4: Acclimate 2/1 (win)
- Race 4: Starting Over 15/1 (show)
- Race 7: Concert Tour 8/5 (win)
- Race 8: Hit the Road 4/1 (win)
Santa Anita didn’t have a prep race for the Kentucky Derby on the schedule, but it did have four stakes races, including a prep race for the distaff version of the Derby — the Kentucky Oaks, which runs at Churchill Downs a day prior to the Kentucky Derby.
Race 3 (aka the Grade III Las Virgenes Stakes) is for fillies hoping to qualify for the Kentucky Oaks, and it offers the same top-four scoring system for qualifying for a position in the Kentucky Oaks’ starting gate.
I chose the second-favored entry there: Kalypso at 5/2 morning line. In the other stakes races, I went with the morning line favorites in races 4 and 7–otherwise known as the San Marcos Stakes and the San Vicente Stakes, respectively. Both stakes races are Grade II matches, incidentally.
I also found a 15/2 show ticket in race 4 that could prove profitable.
In race 8 — the Thunder Road Stakes (Grade III), I backed the third-favored (6/1) entry, Hit the Road.

Saturday Picks and Predictions for Tampa Bay Downs

- Race 9: Gulf Coast 5/2 (win)
- Race 9: Roll Up Mo Money 12/1 (show)
- Race 10: Eres Tu 6/1 (win, if starts)
- Race 10: Counterparty Risk 5/2 (win, otherwise)
- Race 10: Margaret’s Joy 12/1 (show)

The action was heavy at Tampa Bay Downs, where four stakes races dominate the 12-race card for Saturday.
I liked the morning line choices in all but one of the four stakes races. The one outlier, race 10 (the Grade III Endeavor Stakes ), has a 6/1 also-eligible/MTO entrant that could easily upset the favorites and win this match — if the mare starts, that is. Otherwise, stick with the 5/2 morning line favorite.
I went with the 3/1 morning line favorite in race 11 (aka the Grade III Sam F. Davis Stakes), which is another prep race on the 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby.
Speaking of show wagers, I also liked the 15/1 entry in race 8 (the Grade II Tampa Bay Stakes), the 12/1 horse in race 9 (the ungraded Suncoast Stakes), another 12/1 show ticket in race 10 (the Endeavor Stakes) — and let’s not forget that sweet, sweet 30/1 longshot I found in race 11.
