Best Bets for US Open Matches – Friday, September 4, 2020

| September 4, 2020 4:05 am PDT

The 2020 US Open is entering a stage in which there are no big underdogs and everyone can win. We already saw several big names crash out of the tournament, including the top seed in the women’s singles Karolina Pliskova.

It’s only going to get tougher from now on, but also more entertaining for the fans. I expect some excellent matches on Friday and the day brings us plenty of interesting betting opportunities as well.

I share my US Open best bets for Friday and all of my picks come with recommended odds by the top tennis betting sites and reasoning.

Alex de Minaur vs. Karen Khachanov – Over 41.5

One of the most anticipated matches on Friday is the clash between Alex de Minaur and Karen Khachanov. Both young men are expected to be part of the tennis elite for the years to come and have already shown they have the talent to compete at the highest level.

Both players faced some trouble getting to the third round. De Minaur had to go through French veteran Richard Gasquet in his second clash and despite a strong start, the Australian had a lot of trouble. He managed to pull himself together and finish the job.

Kachanov had a similar experience in the opener against Jannik Sinner but looked really strong in the second round against his countryman Andrey Kuznetsov.

The betting sites view de Minaur as the slight favorite in this clash, but I’m not so sure. I believe that it’s going to be a coin toss that could go all the way to five sets. Even if there are four of them, one long one would be enough to cover the over 41.5 line and that’s one of the best US Open betting picks for Friday, in my opinion.

  • Pick: Over 41.5; -104

Ann Li vs. Angelique Kerber – Over 20.5

One of the pleasant surprises of the US Open 2020 so far is the young American Ann Li. She started the competition with a tough victory over Arantxa Rus and then demolished the 13th seed Alison Riske in the second round.

Li was devastating all over the court and didn’t leave any chances to her famous opponent. The 20-year old plays with unexpected maturity in only her second Grand Slam tournament. She seems ready for a breakthrough, but her next opponent might have something to say about it.

Angelique Kerber is one of the contenders for the title and has looked solid so far. She is yet to lose a set, but it’s not like she’s been destroying the opposition. I believe we might be in for a close clash that could go to three sets.

The totals line is set at 20.5 which looks tempting to me because it could be covered in only two sets as well. The price of -105 more that decent, so that’s my recommended wager for this match.

  • Pick: Over 20.5; -105

Serena Williams vs. Sloane Stephens – Over 20

When two former US Open champions meet, you know that it’s going to be fun. Serena Williams is determined to win another Grand Slam before calling it a day and she’s been strong so far in the tournament.

The living legend beat Kristie Ahn and Margarita Gasparyan, keeping both matches short and preserving vital energy for the tough battles ahead. She will certainly need it against fellow American Sloane Stephens who also looked good up to this point.

The younger player was dominant against Mihaela Buzarnescu and Olga Govortsova, giving up only ten games combined. She has won only once against Williams in six attempts so far, but all matches came before 2015 when Serena was in her prime.

And yet, three of them went to five sets, including two out of three in Grand Slam competitions. I believe that we’re about to see a gruesome match that won’t be done fast. I’m a bit surprised by the totals line because two close sets could easily cover the over 20 outcome.

You can get odds of -116 for this wager and I’m more than happy to take it.
