Best Bets for MLS Games on October 24 and 25 (2020) – This Weekend’s Top Picks

| October 22, 2020 7:18 am PDT

El Trafico is arguably the standout matchup of this weekend’s MLS action. LAFC and LA Galaxy clash on Sunday, October 25, but not before Saturday’s huge ten-game fixture list.

Saturday’s jam-packed schedule sees the top two in the Eastern Conference – Toronto FC and Philadelphia Union – face off. Inter Miami and Orlando City also meet for the Florida Derby.

With 11 games taking places across Saturday and Sunday, there are countless betting opportunities for us to take advantage of.

Here are this weekend’s top MLS picks, looking at the best bets across all games.

Atlanta United vs. DC United – Over 2.5 Goals (1.80)

A lack of goals ultimately led to Ben Olsen’s sacking earlier in the month. The long-standing DC United head coach was relieved of his duties following a run that saw his team score just three goals in seven outings.

But since Olsen’s departure, DC has been involved in three high-scoring games. Indeed, a defeat to Chicago Fire, a draw with Philadelphia Union, and a victory over FC Cincinnati all produced over 2.5 goals.

Interim head coach Chad Ashton hasn’t been able to lift the Black & Red off the bottom of the Eastern Conference, although the team’s performances have definitely improved. Still, DC does not have fond memories of facing Atlanta.

The Five Stripes thrashed DC 4-0 at the beginning of October, with Jon Gallagher netting a double. A lot has changed for both clubs over the past couple of weeks, but I’m expecting the two teams to again produce plenty of goals when they meet at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday.

In my Atlanta United vs. DC United betting preview, I predicted that this game will end in a draw. But I believe the over 2.5 goals market offers better value.

New York Red Bulls to Win (2.90)

Like DC, the Red Bulls also seem to be benefitting from a change of head coach. Chris Armas was fired by the New York outfit last month, with the club subsequently poaching Gerhard Struber from English Championship side Barnsley.

The team is currently enjoying a three-game unbeaten streak, following a victory over Atlanta and draws with Toronto FC and Orlando City. Granted, beating the Five Stripes isn’t as hard as it once was. But not many sides have prevented Toronto and Orlando from winning this year.

The Reds Bulls travel to Chicago on Saturday, and the bookies were offering odds of 3.60 for the away win earlier in the week. If you checked out my New York Red Bulls vs. Chicago Fire betting preview in time, you may have been able to take advantage of that price.

The odds for the away win have slipped to 2.90 now, but I still think new price is worth taking advantage of.

Let’s not forget that the Red Bulls have only lost one of their previous six away games. After avoiding defeat to Toronto and Orlando, I’m confident that Struber’s men will claim all three points this weekend.

Montreal Impact and Draw – Double Chance (2.90)

In my New York City vs. Montreal Impact betting preview, I anticipated that the Canadians will hold the Boys in Blue to a draw. Despite NYC being the clear favorite to win this game, recent results suggest that Montreal can snatch a point on Saturday.

However, with the odds at 4.60, backing the draw is clearly a risk. But if you use the double chance market, you stand a far better chance of winning some money, and the odds are still tasty!

Backing the Impact to avoid defeat makes sense to me. Thierry Henry’s men ended Columbus Crew’s unbeaten home record earlier in the month with an impressive away win, and they head into this clash on the back of a well-deserved victory over Inter Miami.

On the other hand, New York City is currently enduring a three-game winless run. A draw with Orlando came in between defeats to New England Revolution and Columbus, so it’s fair to say that Ronny Deila’s side has not been playing well recently.

NYC (1.40) is the bookies’ overwhelming favorite to win this weekend, with Montreal (7.00) the rank outsider. But I can see the Impact upsetting the odds.

Philadelphia Union vs. Toronto FC – Both Teams to Score (1.70)

This matchup brings together the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. Toronto currently leads Philadelphia by three points, and both sides have already secured their spot in the play-offs.

Not only are Toronto and Philly leading the way in the East, but they are also the top scorers in the division. The Union has netted 34 goals in 19 games, while the Reds have scored 30 in that time.

Toronto’s Alejandro Pozuelo is top of the scoring charts, with eight goals and five assists his name. But over in Pennsylvania, it has been a real team effort. Kacper Przybylko (6), Anthony Fontana (6), Brendan Aaronson (4), and Sergio Santos (4) have bagged a combined total of 20 goals.

With so much attacking talent on display, it’s difficult to imagine both teams failing to hit the target at PPL Park on Saturday.

Check out my Philadelphia Union vs. Toronto FC betting preview to find out which team I think will come out on top. But if you’re looking for a safe bet for this game, I recommend backing both teams to score.
