Best Bets for MLS Games on Saturday, October 16 (2021)
We have 11 MLS games to bet on this Saturday, October 16, as normal service is resumed following the international break.
That means all but five of the 27 Major League Soccer teams are in action, giving us plenty of opportunities to win money!
In this post, I preview three of Saturday’s games in detail before sharing the rest of my MLS predictions for the remaining clashes. I also provide my best MLS bets for Saturday’s action.
Let’s kick things off by previewing not one, but two huge top-seven battles in the Eastern Conference before heading West for my Houston Dynamo vs. Seattle Sounders prediction.
Philadelphia Union to Beat CF Montreal
Philadelphia is on a roll right now.
Jim Curtin’s men head into Saturday’s clash with CF Montreal on a five-game unbeaten streak, having picked up four wins and a draw since their last lost.
In fact, no Major League Soccer side has claimed more points than Philly across the past five matches.
Montreal, meanwhile, has lost two of their previous three outings. The Canadians fell to Columbus and New England last month before returning to winning ways against Atlanta.
Although the Quebec outfit is enjoying a much-improved season, all the signs point towards a comfortable Philly win here.
DC United to Beat Nashville SC
Just seven points separate fifth-place DC United and second-place Nashville as the two sides prepare to do battle at Audi Field on Saturday night.
Both sides have remained in the playoff places for much of the campaign, but it feels like DC comes into this clash in a better place than Nashville.
The Black-and-Red have won three of their last five games and have lost just two of their previous seven. Ola Kamara has netted 15 goals in his past 18 appearances, putting him in pole position to clinch the Golden Boot.
The Boys in Gold, on the other hand, have only managed to win one of their last five matches and are currently enduring a three-game drawing streak.
I expect these two sides to dish up a tense and cagey affair, but I’m confident that DC will come out on top.
Seattle Sounders to Beat Houston Dynamo
Given that Houston is playing at home on Saturday, the bookies are offering a juicy price for the away win in this fixture. In fact, some soccer betting sites view Seattle as the underdog.
In my eyes, though, there is only one winner here.
The Sounders find themselves five points clear at the Western Conference summit after securing four straight wins. Not only are they the second-highest scorers in the division, but they also boast the best defensive record.
You probably won’t be surprised to learn that I’m backing Seattle to come away from BBVA Stadium with all three points in the bag.
More MLS Predictions for Saturday, October 16
Here are the rest of my MLS predictions for Saturday’s games.
- LAFC and San Jose Earthquakes to Draw
- Columbus Crew to Beat Inter Miami
- New England Revolution to Beat Chicago Fire
- Orlando City to Beat FC Cincinnati
- Toronto FC and Atlanta United to Draw
- Minnesota United to Beat Austin FC
- Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids to Draw
- Portland Timbers to Beat LA Galaxy
With just one point between them, LAFC and San Jose should produce a cagey encounter. I also expect in-form Columbus to get the better of struggling Inter Miami.
High-flying New England should make light work of lowly Chicago, while Orlando, Minnesota, and Portland are all set for straightforward victories.
I can see Toronto holding Atlanta to a draw. We all know the Five Stripes are on course to claim a playoff berth, but let’s not forget that TFC has turned things around recently.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Real Salt Lake vs. Colorado Rapids ended all square, too. The rapids have drawn five of their past nine games, while RSL has been pretty inconsistent of late.
My Top MLS Picks for Saturday, October 16
It’s time for my top picks for MLS games on Saturday, October 16.
- Seattle Sounders to Beat Houston Dynamo (2.80)
- New England Revolution to Beat Chicago Fire (1.50)
- LA Galaxy vs. Portland Timbers – Over 3.5 Goals (2.20)
- Austin FC vs. Minnesota United – Under 2.5 Goals (2.20)
As I already mentioned, backing Seattle to beat Houston is a no-brainer for me. The Sounders are on a totally different leave to the Dynamo – and that is reflected in the current standings.
If you’re looking for a safe MLS bet this weekend, look no further than New England Revolution vs. Chicago Fire. The first-place Revs are a whopping 38 points ahead of the twelfth-place Fire and have scored twice as many goals this year.
By contrast, Austin FC vs. Minnesota United should be a low-scoring affair. The two sides have played a combined total of 56 MLS games this year, with only 25 of those dishing up over 2.5 goals.
