Belmont Park Picks – Saturday, October 31, 2020

| October 30, 2020 2:04 pm PDT

Belmont Park headlines three stakes races on Saturday schedule: The Zagora Stakes, the Awad Stakes, and of course, the Grade III Bold Ruler Handicap.

Read on for my Belmont Park picks and betting tips for Saturday, October 31, 2020.

Picks for Belmont Park Race 6 – Zagora Stakes

This is the ungraded Zagora Stakes, a race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 1-1/2 miles on turf for a purse of $80,000.

I like the third-favored (5/1) entry in this stakes race—Olympic Games, with Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the irons. This French four-year-old filly finished in the money six of her nine career starts, with three of those wins. She’ll be hard-pressed by Beau Belle, who beat her out of fourth place at the Waya Stakes (Grade III) at Saratoga back in August, but I think Olympic Games will prevail.

At 15/1, I like Cap de Creus, with John R. Velazquez aboard, for a value show wager. This four-year-old filly moneyed ten of her 17 starts, winning two.

  • Win: Olympic Games 5/1
  • Show: Cap de Creus 15/1

Picks for Belmont Park Race 8 – Awad Stakes

This is the ungraded Awad Stakes, a race for two-year-olds running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on turf for a purse of $80,000.

I’m going with one of the 8/1 underdogs (there are four) in this race—It Can Be Done, piloted by Javier Castellano. This gelding moneyed all four of his career starts, winning two.

Looks like John R. Velezquez gets all the fun. The morning line has his mount for this race, Claw, pegged as a 30/1 longshot, which makes this team prime fare for a value show ticket. This colt moneyed four of his six career starts, winning one.

  • Win: It Can Be Done 8/1
  • Show: Claw 30/1

Picks for Belmont Park Race 9 – Bold Ruler Handicap

This is the Bold Ruler Handicap, a Grade III stakes race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $100,000.

I’m backing one of the second-favored (5/2) entries in this race—Share the Ride, with Manuel Franco aboard. This five-year-old gelding finished in the money 12 of his 17 career starts, winning six, and his 2020 record is equally impressive: four money finishes in six starts, two of them wins.

The longest odds in this six-horse race are 10/1, and that’s fine, because I really like Arch Cat, with Kendrick Carmouche in the irons, for a value show wager. This six-year-old gelding moneyed 28 of his 37 career starts, winning 14. In fact, Arch Cat might be a good across the board wager here.

  • Win: Share the Ride 5/2
  • Show/Across the Board: Arch Cat 10/1
