Previewing Belgium vs. Croatia With Prediction and Betting Pick – Soccer Friendly, June 6, 2021
With Euro 2020 fast approaching, Belgium and Croatia aim to gather momentum when they meet in Brussels on Sunday, June 6.
The Red Devils have only lost one of their last 22 outings in all competitions and head into their final warm-up game on an eight-match unbeaten streak (six wins, two draws).
In fact, Zlatko Dalic’s men are enjoying an unbeaten run of their own at the moment (two wins, one draw). But Croatia comes into Sunday’s clash as the bookmakers’ clear underdog.
Before we settle on a Belgium vs. Croatia prediction, we need to look at the betting odds and analyze the teams. Let’s get right into it!
Odds for Belgium vs. Croatia
Although Roberto Martinez’s side was held to a 1-1 draw by Greece on Thursday, there is absolutely no denying that Belgium (1.80) is the deserved favorite to win this one.
Croatia (4.00) may have taken seven points from their last three games, but let’s not forget that Dalic’s side suffered four defeats in five matches before that.
Can Belgium Avoid Defeat Again?
When you consider that Belgium has only lost one of their previous 22 games, it is hardly surprising that Martinez’s side is one of the bookies’ favorites to win Euro 2020.
They may have been held to a surprise draw by Greece in midweek, but they invariably rise to the occasion when it matters.
Belgium clinched a massive 8-0 victory over Belarus back in March, with Hans Vanaken and Leandro Trossard both bagging a brace. Thankfully for Belarus, Romelu Lukaku didn’t even feature in that match.
With 59 goals in 92 international appearances, Lukaku is already Belgium’s all-time leading scorer – and he is still just 28. The powerful striker heads into the summer on the back of a hugely successful season with Inter Milan, having notched 30 goals and ten assists in all competitions.
If Lukaku can carry his domestic form onto the international stage, Belgium could be difficult to stop at Euro 2020.
Could Croatia Upset the Odds?
Meanwhile, Croatia was held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Armenia in midweek. Despite enjoying 68% possession and racking up 19 shots, the Blazers failed to make their dominance count.
With big-name players like Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic, and Ivan Perisic struggling to find a way through Armenia’s defense, Dalic will surely have his concerns ahead of the European Championship.
The Chequered Ones claimed easy WCQ wins over Cyprus and Malta back in March, although they also suffered a poor loss to Slovenia. Following Nations League defeats to France, Sweden, and Portugal, it’s fair to say that Croatia’s Euro 2020 preparations have not been ideal.
With a match against pre-tournament favorites England next weekend, the Blazers aren’t likely to replicate their 2018 World Cup heroics at Euro 2020.
My Belgium vs. Croatia Prediction and Pick
Belgium to Win1.80
I really like the look of the price for the Belgium win here. Of course, odds of 1.80 are nothing to write home about. But I was expecting the odds for the home victory to be a lot lower.
Having avoided defeat in each of their last eight matches, the Red Devils should be able to see off Croatia without any real problems.
