Bayern Munich vs. Eintracht Frankfurt – Bundesliga, October 24, 2020

Bayern Munich became much more serious after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Hoffenheim a few weeks ago, as they recorded five consecutive victories in all competitions. They beat Dortmund, Hertha, Duren, Bielefeld, and Atletico Madrid, in the Champions League, and scored at least three goals in each win. The Bavarians are in 2nd place in Bundesliga with nine points from four matches, a point behind Leipzig.

Frankfurt, on the other side, is still unbeaten this season but failed to get the third straight league victory as Koln held them to a 1-1 draw last time out. Interestingly, each of Frankfurt’s five games in this campaign (all competitions) produced goals on both ends. Eintracht is two spots behind Bayern in the standings and with one point less than the reigning champions.

Bayern Munich’s 4-1 win at Bielefeld marked the 22nd victory in their previous 24 Bundesliga matches. Sixteen (72.73%) of those 22 wins provided over 3.5 total match goals. A 62.5% majority (ten) of those 16 high-scoring victories saw both teams find the back of the net, with the first two-game goals equally shared 40% of the time in those ten matches.

As champions who are looking to record a tenth consecutive top-two finish, Bayern saw a 55.56% majority (five) of their last nine home victories in Bundesliga produce over 2.5 total second-half goals. The Bavarians have also outscored rivals by a 6:1 ratio in first halves across their previous 32 Bundesliga home victories (1H: GF 54, GA 9).

Hans-Dieter Flick will be without Serge Gnabry (illness), Tanguy Kouassi (thigh), and Corentin Tolisso (suspension), while Leroy Sane is questionable with a knee injury.

Without a single draw on the road in Bundesliga from trips entered as outsiders since the start of 2019/20 (W4, L6), Frankfurt lost only one of their previous 12 games in the league (W7, D4, L1). They are also invincible in six Bundesliga road matches (W4, D2), winning the second 45 minutes by an average margin of 2.33 across the last three of those victories.

However, they have a terrible recent league record at Allianz Arena, losing on 11 consecutive Bundesliga visits. Their margin of loss across those defeats was 2.91 (HT: 1.27), though that escalates to 3.00 in their previous eight league trips to Munich, all of which have seen them lose the first half either 1-0 or 2-0.

Adi Hutter cannot count on Filip Kostic (knee), Obite Evan N’Dicka (ankle), and Ragnar Ache, while Jetro Willems is questionable to face Bayern on Saturday with a knee injury.

Bayern won eight of the previous ten H2H encounters (L2), while the Bavarians lost to Frankfurt at this venue just once in this century, so it’s clear who is a big favorite here. Still, I am not going to bet on Bayern to win as there is no value in that bet. Interestingly, Eintracht managed to find the back of the net in each of the last five visits here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they score again on Saturday. That’s why I am going with Bayern to win and BTTS.
