Leverkusen is one of only two teams (Wolfsburg) without a defeat in Bundesliga so far, and they are in a three-game winning run after beating Freiburg 4-2 on the road in the previous round. Bayer bounced back from the Europa League loss to Slavia Prague and beat Hapoel Beer Sheva 4-2 on the road, and is in a strong position to advance to the knockout stage. In the Bundesliga, Leverkusen is in 4th place with 12 points from six matches.

Monchengladbach, on the other side, is only a point behind after defeating RB Leipzig at home last time out, while they are doing an excellent job in the Champions League and are currently top of the group ahead of Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Inter. They destroyed the Ukrainian champions 6-0 on the road, and if they beat them again in the next round, Marco Rose’s side will have a great chance to make it to the knockout phase.

Leverkusen improved a lot on offense after a relatively inefficient start of the season. They scored 17 goals in the last five matches and failed to find the back of the net in that span (1-0 loss to Slavia Prague). That has to be a concern for the visitors who allowed 2+ goals in four matches this term but managed to keep the net intact in the previous two.

When it comes to defense, though, Bayer kept the clean sheet on just two occasions so far in the campaign, despite the fact that they conceded only five goals in six Bundesliga matches. Going back to their attack again, Leverkusen found the back of the net in each of four home games this term.

With seven goals scored and none conceded in the past two matches, Monchengladbach will be a serious rival to Leverkusen on Sunday.

Marco Rose will be without Louis Jordan Beyer (illness), Andreas Poulsen (shoulder), and Denis Zakaria (knee).
