Barcelona vs. Sevilla Betting Preview – Serie A, October 4, 2020

Barcelona played only two out of the opening four rounds, but managed to secure both wins and didn’t allow a single goal in the process while scoring seven in return. Blaugrana failed to defend the title last year as Real Madrid finished above, but Barca is hoping to return to the very top this time around, and the things are going pretty well right now.

Sevilla also recorded a pair of victories in the first two matches of the new LaLiga campaign, but the visitors will have a mountain to climb on Sunday to get three points at Camp Nou. They didn’t win at this venue in LaLiga since December 2002, and Los Rojiblancos are massive underdogs to get a positive result here.

Barcelona Team News and Stats

Barcelona has gone into overdrive since the departure of Luis Suárez, scoring seven unanswered goals in their opening two league games (3.50 per game), benefitting from an opposition own-goal in both. Their average goal tally in their previous six home league H2Hs vs. Sevilla (3.33 – W6) almost matches that.

Still, the home side started slowly at Camp Nou recently, netting first-half goals in a minority (three) of their previous seven LaLiga home matches. Nonetheless, Blaugrana lost only one of their last 32 home league contests, and last lost by a 2+ goal difference in such a game back in September 2010!

Ronald Koeman will be without suspended Clement Lenglet, who received a red card against Celta, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen is still sidelined with a knee injury. Matheus Fernandes (muscle), Junior Firpo (muscle), and Samuel Umtiti (knee) are listed as questionable for this fixture.

Sevilla Team News and Stats

After coming from behind to defeat Cádiz in their last LaLiga game on the road, Sevilla recovered to claim points in seven of the previous 11 league matches in which they’ve allowed first (W3, D4, L4). A good start still means a lot though, with a 60% majority (six) of Sevilla’s last ten LaLiga away victories seeing them lead at halftime.

Having held out for a draw in half of the away league matches they came as underdogs last term (W1, D3, L2), Sevilla should not be underestimated. However, Los Colchoneros have lost on each of their previous eight league visits at Camp Nou, trailing to nil at halftime by a 2+ goal difference in three of their last four LaLiga trips to this venue.

Julen Lopetegui cannot count on Sebastien Corchia (knee), while Carlos Fernandez is questionable with a muscle injury.

Barcelona vs. Sevilla Pick

Barcelona won seven of the previous ten H2H encounters (D2, L1), including three of the last four (D1), while Blaugrana won 12 consecutive matches at Camp Nou. Sevilla rarely gets a positive result here, let alone a victory, so it’s hard to expect Lopetegui’s side to get three points on Sunday. Sevilla did score at least a goal in five of the last seven duels with Barcelona and considering that Barca didn’t allow a single goal yet, I think it’s the right time for them to finally concede one. I am backing both teams to score with over 2.5 goals.
