Barcelona vs. Real Madrid – LaLiga, October 24, 2020

Following a pair of victories in the opening two games in LaLiga, Barcelona managed to earn just a point from the next two as they drew with Sevilla at home and then lost to Getafe on the road. Barca even failed to find the back of the net in that unusual defeat, but they bounced back in the Champions League with a 5-1 win over Ferencvaros. Blaugrana is in 9th place in LaLiga with seven points from the first four games.

Real Madrid suffered two straight defeats for the first time since late February as they were left empty-handed against Cadiz in the previous LaLiga match and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. Both losses came as complete surprises, and there is no better way to lick your wounds than with three points in El Clasico on Barcelona’s turf. Madrid is 3rd in the standings with ten points thus far.

Barcelona Team News and Stats

Following opposing results in the Champions League in midweek, Barcelona and Real Madrid now engage in the 245th El Clasico, with the hosts looking to tie the LaLiga H2H record to 73-73. However, for the first time since April 2003, both sides are going into this world-renowned derby on the back of a loss in the last LaLiga round.

Barcelona scored only one goal in the previous two LaLiga games, the first time in a stretch of 12 LaLiga matches in which they have done so, in what is just the third time since the start of 2019/20 that they have recorded two straight winless league games. A sole win from their previous five LaLiga home Clasico duels (D3, L1) – despite scoring the opening goal on four occasions – also fails to inspire, especially when Barcelona scored only once in the second 45 minutes in this season (excluding own goals).

Ronald Koeman will be without Jordi Alba (muscle), Samuel Umtiti (knee), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (knee), and Matheus Fernandes (muscle).

Real Madrid Team News and Stats

Barcelona’s weak second-half performances stand in stark contrast with visiting Real Madrid, who enjoy an aggregate 4-0 result in their five LaLiga second halves this season. Still, their shock loss to Cadiz at Alfredo di Stéfano Stadium was the first time in four LaLiga matches in which they failed to win the second half.

Additionally, Real Madrid will be concerned to have fallen to straight defeats as a favorite (in all competitions) for the first time since the finish of the 2018/19 campaign, even if both were by only a one-goal difference.

Vinícius Júnior has netted in three of his previous four appearances for Los Galacticos – opening the scoring in two LaLiga games during that span – as well as scoring the fastest Champions League goal by a substitute (15 seconds).

Zinedine Zidane cannot count on Dani Carvajal (knee), Eden Hazard (muscle), Martin Odegaard (muscle), Alvaro Odriozola (calf), Sergio Ramos (knee), and Mariano Diaz.

Barcelona vs. Real Madrid Betting Pick

Even six of the previous ten H2H encounters including the last four failed to produce goals on both ends, which is surprising, considering the attacking force both teams have. Both Barca and Real scored only two goals apiece in the last two LaLiga matches, which is quite concerning for the bettors who prefer playing on Over or BTTS. I am one of them, though, and I am still going with BTTS in this one. Sergio Ramos will not be ready to face Barca, and I believe the hosts will have a much easier job to score a goal or two. On the other hand, I am expecting Karim Benzema to cause havoc in Barca’s penalty box, and find himself on the scoresheet.
