Barcelona vs. PSG – Champions League, February 16, 2021

| February 15, 2021 8:45 am PDT

Following a shaky start to the season, seven straight La Liga wins have given Barcelona plenty of new-found confidence ahead of their Champions League Round of 16 clash against PSG.

The French champs visit Camp Nou on Tuesday, February 16, having enjoyed a series of victories under new head coach Maurico Pochettino.

After checking out the bookmakers’ odds, I will share my Barcelona vs. PSG prediction and betting pick below.

Barcelona vs. PSG Odds

Barcelona to Win2.00
The Draw3.95
PSG to Win3.35

As expected, 10bet sees Barcelona (2.00) as the favorite to win the first leg. Still, the high price for the home win indicates that the hosts aren’t likely to find life easy on Tuesday.

Given that PSG (3.35) possesses stacks of attacking firepower, nobody would be overly surprised if the visitors were able to snatch at least a draw (3.95) in Spain.

Barcelona vs. PSG Preview

We all know that Barcelona’s struggles were well documented earlier in the campaign. I mean, by their own high standards, the Catalans made a dreadful start to the season, there is no denying that.

However, it’s safe to say that Barca is now firmly back on track.

A 12-game unbeaten streak in La Liga has seen Ronald Koeman’s men climb up to third in the standings, with seven straight wins coming since the turn of the year. Last time out, Lionel Messi bagged a trademark brace as Barcelona hammered Alaves 5-1 on Saturday.

The Catalans finished joint-top of Group G earlier in the season, picking up 15 points from a possible 18 during the UCL group stage. Across six games, Koeman’s men scored 16 goals while conceding just five, securing a notable 0-2 victory over Juventus in Turin along the way.

Barca is battling a number of high-profile injuries at the moment, with Gerard Pique, Ansu Fati, Philippe Coutinho, and Sergi Roberto, all currently sidelined. But with Messi seemingly back to his irresistible best, Barcelona will be difficult to contain on Tuesday.

PSG has only suffered one defeat in ten games since Mauricio Pochettino replaced Thomas Tuchel in the Parc des Princes hot seat. That said, the Parisians haven’t faced a team of Barcelona’s quality for a long time.

The French side beat Istanbul Basaksehir, RB Leipzig, and Manchester United on their way to qualifying for the Round of 16. But after losing two of their opening three Champions League games this term, qualification wasn’t always a formality.

Unusually, Pochettino’s men aren’t having it all their way in Ligue 1 this season. With both Lille and Lyon challenging for the French title, PSG can’t exactly switch off from their domestic commitments right now.

The Parisians made it all the way to the UCL final last season, only to fall to Bayern Munich at the last hurdle. It goes without saying that they will be desperate to go one better this time around, although that won’t be easy.

Like Barca, PSG also has injury problems. Neymar won’t be able to face his former club, with Juan Bernat and Angel Di Maria are also on the treatment table.

Barcelona vs. PSG Pick

  • Barcelona to Win

There is no denying that Barcelona has turned a corner in recent weeks. After all, Koeman’s men have scored over 2.5 goals in four of their previous seven La Liga wins, as well as claiming three clean sheets during that period.

Of course, PSG won’t go down without a fight on Tuesday. But when you consider Barca’s recent form, backing the home side makes a lot of sense here.
