Atletico Madrid vs. Villarreal Betting – LaLiga, October 3, 2020
Although it’s already Round 5 of the Spanish LaLiga, Atletico Madrid played only two matches so far and collected four points after a massive win over Granada and a scoreless draw with Huesca on the road. Diego Simeone’s side was surprisingly weak on offense following six goals against Granada and will be looking to get back into the scoresheet on Saturday.
Villarreal, on the other hand, played all four games thus far and recorded two victories, including the latest one over Alaves at home, along with a draw and a heavy 4-0 loss to Barcelona on the road. The Yellow Submarine reinforced this summer and set their sights on the Champions League next year, so this season will be quite important for Unai Emery’s team.
In the following article you can check out my Atletico Madrid vs. Villarreal betting pick and get the latest news, stats, and H2H record.
Atletico Madrid vs. Villarreal Odds
Atletico Madrid Team News and Stats
Prior to this LaLiga duel, Atletico Madrid scored precisely twice in one half in a 58.33% (seven) of their previous 12 league home victories. That ability to dominate stretches has led to Atletico boasting a current 36-game unbeaten streak at Wanda Metropolitano in the LaLiga matches played against sides from outside last season’s top two, which are usually Real Madrid and Barcelona (W28, D8).
Impressively, eight of Atletico’s previous nine victories at home produced a 2+ goal difference, and each seen them win the second 45 minutes to-nil. Still, Los Colchoneros have been level or worse after the opening 30 minutes in all of their last six LaLiga home H2H duels with Villarreal (D5, L1).
Diego Simeone will be without Jose Maria Gimenez (quarantine), while Sime Vrsaljko is questionable with a muscle injury.
Villarreal Team News and Stats
Villarreal’s big 4-0 defeat at Barcelona was their second loss in as many LaLiga away games, both played against the top three teams from the previous campaign. Both games saw them allow a goal from the penalty spot, as they have now done at least once in four of their last six league losses on the road.
Additionally, The Yellow Submarine have lost each of their previous eight LaLiga away matches against last season’s top three, losing by an average difference of 2.13 goals in those losses. The visitors have also averaged precisely 1.0 goal allowed in the first 30 minutes in their previous eight league away H2Hs vs. last season’s top three.
Unai Emery cannot count on Francis Coquelin (thigh), Ramiro Guerra (knee), Alberto Moreno (knee), and Ruben Pena (muscle). Sofian Chakla (muscle) and Alfonso Pedraza (muscle) are questionable to feature on Saturday.
Atletico Madrid vs. Villarreal Pick
Villarreal won four of the previous ten H2H encounters (D4, L2), but Atletico Madrid won two of the last three meetings. Los Colchoneros also won two of the past three duels at Wanda Metropolitano, but Villarreal failed to find the back of the net on only two out of the last eight H2H clashes.
That being said, I am backing the visitors and red-hot Paco Alcacer and Gerard Moreno (three goals apiece) to score at least one goal here. I am going with both teams to score, the feature that occurred in four of the previous six H2Hs.
