Atlanta United vs. Nashville SC – MLS, May 29, 2021

| May 28, 2021 6:49 am PDT

Nashville will put their unbeaten record on the line at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, May 29, as Atlanta aims to become the first side to conquer the Tennessee team in 2021.

A run of two wins and four draws has seen Gary Smith’s men cement fourth place in the Eastern Conference, although the Five Stripes (2-3-1) are only one point behind.

Who will come out on top in Georgia? Let’s start by checking out the odds for Saturday’s clash before making an Atlanta United vs. Nashville SC prediction.

With the home-field advantage on their side, the Five Stripes are the bookmakers’ favorites to claim all three points on Saturday. Still, the price for the Atlanta win is by no means small.

As you can see, the sports betting sites expect Nashville to give the hosts a run for their money. Judging by their early-season performances, the Boys in Gold are likely to cause ATL UTD plenty of problems.

Previewing the Match

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Atlanta has made an inconsistent start to life under Gabriel Heinze’s watch. I mean, the Five Stripes have only lost one of their opening six MLS matches this term. But they have also won just twice.

Draws with Orlando, Inter Miami, and Seattle have prevented the club from keeping pace with the early frontrunners in the East. However, Heinze’s men will be happy with their fifth-place ranking for now.

As well as conceding just five goals, Atlanta has already kept two clean sheets this year.

With five goals against, the Five Stripes currently boast the third-best defensive record in the division.

That said, Heinze will be hoping that his players can start finding the back of the net more often, as they have also scored seven goals across their opening six games.

Thankfully, Josef Martinez bagged a late penalty to rescue a point for his team against the Sounders last weekend. The 2018 Golden Boot winner has scored two goals in his last three outings and appears to be getting back to his best.

Nashville may have already picked up four draws this year, but I don’t think that is a major problem right now. Most importantly, Smith’s men have yet to taste defeat this season – recording two wins along the way.

Having drawn each of their opening three matches, the Boys in Gold have since won two of their previous three, with victories over New England and Austin coming either side of a goalless draw with RSL.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Nashville heads into Saturday’s clash on the back of four straight clean sheets.

Goalkeeper Joe Willis has picked up where he left off last season, while Walker Zimmerman and Dave Romney’s center-back partnership continues to go from strength to strength.

If Smith’s men can add a few more goals to their game, they could easily become one of the most feared teams in the East.

Atlanta vs. Nashville Prediction and Pick

  • The Draw

Having analyzed both teams, the draw feels like the best bet for Atlanta United vs. Nashville SC. After all, the two sides have played a combined total of 12 games this year – producing seven draws in the process.

The Five Stripes will look to attack and put early pressure on the visitors, but Nashville’s resolute backline should be able to weather the storm and snatch a point.
