Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace – EPL, December 26, 2020
It has been a good start to the season for Aston Villa. Comfortably in the top half of the EPL at Christmas and just a few points off the European places.
Crystal Palace at home on Boxing Day would seem to be a favorable fixture at this time of year, but Roy Hodgson’s side will want to show what it is made of after the drubbing at the hands of Liverpool.
Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace Odds
BetOnline has not gotten carried away after Palace’s last game – but the odds are still not inviting enough for an away win, in my opinion. Villa has looked really good at times this season and could well push for European qualification with a good run of results over the next few months. The home win price is probably the best value here.
Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace Match Preview
Villa might have only scored two of its three goals against West Brom in the last five minutes of their game at the weekend. But Dean Smith’s side was in complete control throughout and really could have made the final scoreline far more embarrassing for Sam Allardyce in his first game in charge of the Baggies.
Jack Grealish really looked to be enjoying himself, toying with the West Brom defenders, and he will be at the center of everything Villa does here yet again. But there are other attacking options in the home team – and the capture of Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest is looking like one of the best deals of the summer.
It will be interesting to see just how Crystal Palace reacts to that 7-0 thrashing by Liverpool. It is not as though Roy Hodgson was without his best players for the game, and he will need to work out how to stop the attacking movements of the Villa team in a way that obviously didn’t work at the weekend.
Wilfried Zaha plays an even more important role for Palace than Grealish does for Villa – and the Ivory Coast international needs to be on top of his game to allow his teammates to shine at Villa Park. Palace has had some tough fixtures to see out in 2020, and this one only continues that trend.
Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace Betting Pick
Aston Villa to Win-107
Boxing Day fixtures can sometimes throw up some surprising results. But it would take a lot of belief to back Palace to come back from the Liverpool game and beat Villa in its own stadium. Aston Villa looks to be one of the teams to watch this season and should be able to pick up another three points on Saturday.
