Aston Villa vs. Arsenal – EPL, February 6, 2021

Aston Villa has only played two league games in 2021 and probably needs to get some more minutes under its belt to get back in the swing of things.

Arsenal is the opponent in the early game on Saturday, and the Gunners are also looking to get back to winning ways after losing in midweek.

Arsenal has looked much better in the last month, but I am a little surprised that BetOnline sees enough in this team to make it favorite to win on Saturday. Villa needs some more games to get back to normal, but the odds for a draw or a home win surely have to be looked at here.

Aston Villa vs. Arsenal Match Preview

After so many games being postponed, Aston Villa played two in the space of five days last week and came away with three points, something that manager Dean Smith should probably be pleased with. He was less happy with the cavalier attitude that gifted West Ham its second – and crucial – goal on Wednesday, though.

Ross Barkley had scored the winner against Southampton last weekend in what was an understandably quiet affair, so maybe Villa felt the need to liven things up against West Ham. The return of Barkley could make a big difference to Villa’s chances of success – and he might fancy a repeat performance against Arsenal.

Arsenal’s game against Wolves in the week was completely changed with the sending off David Luiz just before half time. The Gunners were 1-0 up at that point, but Wolves scored from the resulting penalty and then again just after the break. The game was then as good as over after keeper Bernd Leno was also shown a red card with 20 minutes still to play.

Mikel Arteta now has a huge problem with the defensive element of the squad he can take to Villa Park. Leno and Luiz will be suspended – and there is doubt over whether back up keeper Maty Ryan will be fit as well. With Kieran Tierney already missing because of a calf injury, Arsenal could well be in trouble.

Aston Villa vs. Arsenal Pick

  • Aston Villa to Win

Arsenal has undoubtedly improved since a very poor run of results in November and December but still only sits in mid-table. Now with a number of first-team regulars unavailable for this game, Villa’s chances of taking all three points have to have improved. Arsenal traditionally doesn’t travel too well at the best of times, and this could finish in a home win.
