Arsenal vs. West Bromwich Albion – English Premier League, May 9, 2021
If West Brom comes away from north London without three points from the late game on Sunday the club will be relegated from the Premier League with three fixtures still to play.
Sam Allardyce will experience the drop for the first time in his career and the better players in the squad will start thinking about where they want to be next season.
Arsenal’s recent form has been patchy though, so a home win is far from guaranteed here.
Arsenal vs. West Bromwich Albion Odds
There is no room for error for West Brom now, so BetOnline’s odds for an away win might look a little tempting here.
But Arsenal still has an outside chance of qualifying for Europe, so we can’t expect the home side to just roll over. A draw is about the most to hope for for the Baggies – and that won’t be enough.
Arsenal vs. West Bromwich Albion Match Preview
After some less than impressive performances, Arsenal was made to look like soccer kings by Newcastle at the weekend as it cruised to a 2-0 win at St James’ Park.
The home side’s tactic of allowing the Gunners to play completely backfired as Mike Arteta’s side won three valuable points as it makes a late surge for the European places.
Alexandre Lacazette missed the game but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was back after a severe bout of malaria contracted while on international duty.
He scored the second goal and will now want to make the most out of the rest of the season after such a lengthy lay off.
With relegation on the horizon, the Baggies have done well to keep things together for this long. But the goal conceded that shared the points with Wolves on Monday summed up the club’s season.
A freak strike from a ricochet onto Fabio Silva’s foot gave Wolves the lead right on half time. An equalizer from Mbaye Diagne with about half an hour to go gave West Brom some hope, but to no avail.
It is true that West Brom just hasn’t been good enough this season – but the players are still giving it their all in the vain hope of staying up.
My Arsenal vs. West Bromwich Albion Pick
Arsenal to Win-213
If Arsenal didn’t still have a slim chance of pushing into the European places I would not hesitate in backing West Brom to come away from the Emirates with the points.
The Gunners can seem listless at the best of times but should raise their game now that Aubameyang is back in the side. West Brom will make it a good battle, but this could be the final nail in the coffin for Sam Allardyce’s side.
