Arminia Bielefeld vs. Bayern Munich – Bundesliga, October 17, 2020

The 2020-21 German Bundesliga season goes on with Matchday 4 over the weekend including a clash at Schuco Arena in Bielefeld where Arminia hosts the reigning champs Bayern Munich.

These two foes haven’t met each other since 2009. That’s the last time Arminia Bielefeld played in the German Bundesliga, and the Blues will be highly motivated to prove their worth against a heavyweight rival.

On the other side, the Bavarians will look for another convincing victory, so here’s my best Arminia Bielefeld vs. Bayern Munich betting pick for Saturday, October 17.

Arminia vs. Bayern Odds

Arminia +2.0-115
Bayern -2.0+105
Arminia to Win+1200
Bayern to Win-500
Draw+750
Over 3.5-135
Under 3.5+110

Bayern Munich is the reigning Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League champion, so don’t be surprised by some unattractive odds. Of course, the odds on the hosts are too attractive, and that’s because nobody in the world believes Arminia can upset Bayern.

According to Bovada Sportsbook, Arminia is a massive +380 underdog to stay undefeated. However, the bookies won’t be surprised if the hosts find the net, setting -133 odds on both teams to score.

Arminia vs. Bayern Preview

Arminia Bielefeld’s fans waited for 10 years to watch their beloved club playing in the German Bundesliga, and the Blues haven’t disappointed thus far. They sit at the 10th spot of the Bundesliga standings with four points and a 2:2 goal difference.

The Blues opened with a 1-1 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt. They beat FC Koln 1-0 in Matchday 2, but the first loss came two weeks ago at Werder Bremen 1-0.

Arminia head coach Uwe Neuhaus prefers a cautious approach, but that’s not a surprise, considering the strength and weaknesses of his team. Neuhaus can count on some inexperienced players at this level of soccer, and that could be a problem, especially against the toughest teams in Germany.

On the other side, the Bavarians are fourth in the Bundesliga with six points and a 13:7 goal difference. They started the season with a ridiculous 8-0 home victory over Schalke, but Matchday 2 brought a massive upset, as the Bavarians lost at Hoffenheim 4-1.

Bayern hasn’t impressed last time out, barely outlasting Hertha 4-3 as a -700 home fave. The Bavarians had a 2-0 lead early in the second half, but they allowed Hertha to mount a comeback twice before Robert Lewandowski sealed the victory with his fourth goal of the day.

Lewandowski now has five goals on his tally, while Serge Gnabry scored three times, but the manager Hans-Dieter Flick has to be concerned about his team’s defensive performance.

Arminia vs. Bayern Pick

I’m convinced that Arminia doesn’t have enough offensive firepower to take full advantage of Bayern’s defensive flaws. Even if the hosts find the net once, I’m pretty sure the Bavarians will score a few goals and earn all three points.

Therefore, my best bet is Bayern to cover a 1.5-goal spread. I’m satisfied with -180 odds, and I certainly want to avoid an eventual push with a 2-goal spread.

The Bavarians have covered a 1.5-goal spread in eight of their previous 11 outings on the road. I expect them to control the midfield and create a bunch of scoring opportunities against the newcomers.

Pick
  • Bayern Munich -1.5
    -180
