Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Georgia Bulldogs – College Football (October 2, 2021)

The SEC means more in college football. Georgia has one of their best teams in program history, and they have plenty of opportunities to improve. No team is perfect, and we will find out a lot about both of these squads.

Arkansas has stunned the SEC folks after making quick work of Texas and Texas A&M. They have dominated at the line of scrimmage, but this will be their top test in years.

Sam Pittman is the early candidate for National Coach of the Year. What he has done thus far in Fayetteville has been remarkable.

The program is good enough to contend in the SEC West, but it will take at least two road trip victories against elite teams entering the polls this weekend.

Arkansas has trips to Oxford and Tuscaloosa on the horizon. Georgia has favorable matchups ahead. This one will be one of their biggest challenges before their contest with the Gators.

It is time to look at the latest odds for this SEC clash via

No. 8 Arkansas vs. No. 2 Georgia

Arkansas (+18.5)-105
Georgia (-18.5)-115
Arkansas to Win+700
Georgia to Win-1100
Over 48-110
Under 48-110

Kirby Smart has gone 18-11 against the Top 25. The Bulldogs have won eight of their past nine meetings with the Razorbacks.

Arkansas has covered in four of the past six against the Dawgs. The Razorbacks keep covering and winning outright as underdogs. The Bulldogs are coming off a beatdown over Vanderbilt, where they covered. We could see this line drop down to the 16-17 point mark before kickoff.

It is time to dissect this matchup further by looking at the keys to victory.

Why Arkansas Wins

The Razorbacks have been able to control the line of scrimmage and move the ball against all defenses thus far. KJ Jefferson has been a difference-maker, but he has had help around him. AJ Green, Dominique Johnson, Raheim Sanders, and Trelon Smith are among the top backfields in America.

The eighth leading rushing attack in the country will be the top team Georgia will have seen at this point in terms of the trenches. Clemson struggled to do much of anything when they were fully healthy. Arkansas has more talented blockers, backs, and a bruising signal-caller that can run over many linebackers.

The x-factor that no team has been able to handle with single coverage has been Treylon Burks. He was able to expose the Aggie defense last week and made the most of his opportunities. The 85-yard touchdown connection he hauled in from Jefferson gave the squad the momentum they needed.

Georgia’s secondary was supposed to be their weakness, but nobody has been able to do much of anything thus far. Burks will be one of the most explosive wideouts Georgia has to defend all season. If the Razorbacks connect on a few explosive pass plays, the run game will be ready to flourish.

The defense is where they may need to win this game by staying opportunistic. Jalen Catalon has been a star out there other than taking a poor angle against Isaiah Spiller last week, but Bumper Pool and Grant Morgan have led the way at linebacker.

Why Georgia Wins

ARK-UGA should be a game where the Bulldogs don’t need to score 30-plus points to win, but JT Daniels has the weapons at his disposal to keep the Razorback defense on its toes.

Georgia has some stud backs of their own, and the offensive line should find more success against the Arkansas front seven than vice-versa. Brock Bowers at tight end has been the security blanket for Daniels, but they have speed on the perimeter. Arian Smith is the perfect burner, but Jermain Burton has been their slot option.

The main reason why Georgia is capable of winning every game on the schedule has been the defense. Their front seven makes it impossible to run the ball. The NFL linebackers have the size and speed to roam sideline-to-sideline.

Jordan Davis at nose tackle is an unmovable object and allows the linebackers to make several plays at or behind the line of scrimmage.

When they put opposing offenses into obvious passing downs, the squad will pin their ears back and harass the opposing signal-caller. That is when the game can get ugly in the blink of an eye.

Arkansas vs. Georgia Prediction

The Bulldogs are the team to beat these days, and they have the defense to limit the rushing attack of Arkansas. KJ Jefferson has four different backs he can lean on if his body isn’t 100% healthy for this one.

The gauntlet of the SEC is remarkable. The Bulldogs have the most ferocious defense in the country. The linebackers are great, and they will be ready for the challenge. They had an enjoyable week, and Arkansas is on an all-time high after upsetting a Top 10 squad in Texas A&M.

Everybody will be jumping on the bandwagon of Arkansas, but the Dawgs are too talented on the defensive side of the ball.

They will win the battle at the line of scrimmage and come out victorious in their own backyard.

Arkansas vs. Georgia Pick

The public is taking the points with Arkansas since a few long-scoring drives could allow them to cover the spread. However, Georgia is capable of limiting Arkansas to 10-14 points and hanging 30-plus points.

I love this Bulldogs squad to cover the spread with a late rushing score. We have seen backdoor covers before, and this spread could come down right at the number. There is no value in taking UGA to win outright, so I lean with the home team by laying the points.

  • Georgia (-18.5)
