Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Jets – NFL Week 5, 2020
Arizona’s Week 1 road victory over the 49ers looked pretty impressive at the time. One could even argue that they looked good in a Week 2 shellacking of the Washington Football Team. However, there’s no doubt that they have not looked very good over the past two weeks after losses to Detroit and Carolina.
Meanwhile, the New York Jets have been way worse than anticipated. They have stunk it up on offense and they’ve been beyond horrendous on defense. They haven’t even come within a field goal of covering a spread yet.
Cardinals vs. Jets Odds
|Arizona Cardinals -7.5||-105|
|New York Jets +7.5||-115|
|Arizona Cardinals Moneyline||-370|
|New York Jets Moneyline||+290|
Taking the Cards as a 7.5 favorite over the Jets might have looked like a no-brainer after Week 2, but that’s changed. It’s not so much that New York is improving or showing signs they will compete. They aren’t. It’s more to do with Arizona’s play over the past two weeks. A hyped up offense has faltered and the defense has shown serious cracks.
Arizona Cardinals Assessment
Arizona’s hot start has been drastically cooled. Even though we are only in Week 5 and the Cards are 2-2, this is a must-win game. This might not be the case if they were playing almost any other team, but they’re not playing against any other team. They’re facing the Jets. A team that has given up no fewer than 27 points in each game and nearly 35 points in each of their last three. This is exactly what Arizona’s offense needs to get back on track.
While running back Kenyan Drake’s status for this one is unknown, the Cardinals should still be able to establish a fairly effective running game while Kyler Murray continues to build chemistry with DeAndre Hopkins and the rest of his receivers. This game could provide the young quarterback with a little more confidence. Arizona’s defense hasn’t been anything to write home about, but they should be able to handle an impotent Jets attack with relative ease.
New York Jets Assessment
What more can be said of the Jets? 0-4 SU and ATS. They’ve lost every game this year by at least 10 points and they have given up 31 or more points in three straight games. The organization is in a shambles from top to bottom. New York’s offense ranks at or barely above the bottom in all major categories. While the defense isn’t quite as bad, it just can’t seem to stop opposing offenses from racking up points.
This team needs to show signs of life before anyone should even think about betting on them SU or ATS. It’s like they are already in tank mode. With that said, New York is certainly making money for those who fade them. They’ve also made money for Under backers. The Under is 4-0 this season. Of course, being the Jets, they can’t even do that convincingly.
Cardinals vs. Jets Prediction and Pick
This particular edition of Gang Green doesn’t appear to have much pride. It’s apparent that Adam Gase has lost the locker room, and that doesn’t bode well. Some might go so far as to say they are already in tank mode. Until New York shows some backbone, they simply aren’t worth betting on. Arizona needs this one and they have what it takes to get it done. Even if it’s on the road.
