Arantxa Rus vs. Clara Burel Betting Preview – French Open, September 28, 2020

| September 28, 2020 1:07 am PDT

We saw a couple of seeded players eliminated on the first day of the 2020 French Open which is a sign that the tournament should be very competitive. Plenty of athletes have a shot at the women’s singles title and it’s going to very entertaining.

One of the late matches on Monday is between Arantxa Rus and Clara Burel. Not many expect wonders from any of them, but I think their clash today could be interesting to watch. I also see some potential to make money, as you can see in my Arantxa Rus vs. Clara Burel betting preview.

The post includes the latest odds, information about both players, my prediction, and a betting pick at the end.

Rus vs. Burel Odds

  • Rus to win; -450
  • Burel to win; +333
  • Rus (-5.5); +100
  • Burel (+5.5); -138
  • Over 19.5; -120
  • Under 19.5; -120

The Arantxa Rus vs. Clara Burel odds of the top tennis betting sites are clearly showing the Dutch player is a huge favorite. That’s to be expected against an opponent that lacks any experience at the highest tier of female tennis.

Arantxa Rus Player Profile

The early career of Arantxa Rus showed some promise in 2011 and 2012. The Dutch player looked like she might become a part of the elite, but the next couple of years saw her enter a downward spiral.

She’s having a bit of a return to the WTA since 2019 and we saw her first win in a Grand Slam tournament since 2020. Rus reached the second round of the Australian Open, but that was it. She’s still close to her best rankings right now, so a win or two at the French Open 2020 could lift her.

The Dutch player has been decent on clay for most of her career and she has more experience than her opponent. Rus also beat a solid opponent like Iga Swiatek in the Italian Open, so she certainly can start with a victory in Paris.

Clara Burel Player Profile

I’m sure that Clara Burel was extremely happy when the list of wild-card players for the 2020 Roland-Garros was published. The 19-year old’s name was on it and she will have the chance to play at the tournament for the first time in her career.

Bure reached the top spot in the junior rankings in 2018 and she had plenty of success at that level. Up to this point, the French player is yet to follow that with some wins in WTA or ITF events for women. A good performance in the 2020 French Open could boost her rankings and her career as a whole.

Rus vs. Burel Prediction and Betting Pick

I don’t think any of the players has what it takes for a deep run in the 2020 French Open, but they both should look at the opener as an excellent opportunity to get at least one win. Rus is the better athlete and has more experience, so she should be able to win.

And yet, Burel loves clay and will be determined to at least put up a fight at home soil. I think this one could be somewhat close, so getting -120 for over 19.5 games makes the most sense.

  • Over 19.5

I have another betting French Open betting preview for Monday, so feel free to check it out.
