Prediction for Angels vs. White Sox – Saturday, April 30th, 2022

| April 29, 2022 12:31 pm PDT

The Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox will face off Saturday at Guaranteed Rate Field. This will be the second game of a four-game series that kicks off Friday night.

Chicago might be the home team, but they’ve been trending in the wrong direction. Meanwhile, Los Angeles leads the AL West after a five-game win streak. That should give them the upper hand.

Ultimately, it’ll come down to the sportsbooks. Are they backing the Angels on the road? Let’s take a look at the odds for Saturday’s matchup.

I didn’t see the best MLB sportsbooks giving the Chicago White Sox the edge. Chicago has been struggling, while the Los Angeles Angels have been playing much better lately.

Los Angeles ranks just outside the top ten against the spread, but it’s a different story for Chicago. Their 6-12 record against the spread is the worst in the AL. They’ve only covered once in their last ten games.

Both teams have been in high-scoring games, ranking top 10 in the MLB at going over their run total. The White Sox are one of four teams to go over their run total in more than 50 percent of their games.

David Fletcher has been out since April 12, but the Angels shortstop could return for this series. Unfortunately, the White Sox are dealing with many more injuries. Thankfully, there’s optimism they’ll have Luis Robert and Liam Hendrick available on Saturday.

These AL teams could find themselves battling for a playoff spot in September. Let’s see what they have to do to win Saturday’s matchup.

Angels vs. White Sox Preview

The Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox have flip-flopped their 2022 seasons. Los Angeles started 3-4, while Chicago was 6-2. The Angels have won 10 of their last 13 games, and the White Sox have dropped nine of their last ten games.

Everyone has been waiting for the Angels to capitalize on having the best player in baseball, but their pitching typically holds them back. However, that pitching looked great in a four-game sweep over the Cleveland Guardians.

  • Starters: 1.17 ERA
  • Bullpen: 2.77 ERA

It’s interesting because everyone expected Chicago’s offense to lead them on a postseason run. After all, they opened as one of the preseason 2022 World Series favorites. That offense has scored the third-fewest runs in the majors.

Los Angeles’ pitching has improved, but their offense is the strength of their team. They lead the MLB with 99 runs scored. Brandon Marsh and Taylor Ward lead the Angels in RBIs, but we all know Mike Trout is their leader.

Trout is hitting .352 with five home runs and 10 RBIs. It’s early, but he looks poised for another MVP-caliber season.

The pitching matchup for Saturday’s game will feature Jose Suarez and Vince Velasquez. Honestly, it has been a rough season for both players.

Jose Suarez (Angels) Vince Velasquez (White Sox)
ERA 5.54 6.75
WHIP 1.54 1.83
Walks 9 7
Strikeouts 11 13

Neither player has pitched more than five innings in a game in 2022. If they continue to struggle, we could be looking at a bullpen game. The White Sox have a better ERA, but the Angels have the fourth-lowest WHIP in the AL.

I expect this matchup to come down to the White Sox offense. If they step up, they’ll give the Angels a good fight. If not, we could see a blowout.

Angels vs. White Sox Same Game Parlay

  • Jose Suarez Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-122)
  • Shohei Ohtani to Record a Hit (-240)
  • Mike Trout to Record 2+ Hits (+200)

I have little interest in picking any Chicago White Sox players for my same game parlay, so we’re going with three Los Angeles Angels players. This parlay gives you (+673) odds.

Jose Suarez struck out a season-high six batters in his last start. That came against a Baltimore Orioles offense that leads the MLB in strikeouts. Chicago has struck out the second-fewest times in the majors.

The White Sox have struggled to put runs on the board, but they do a great job avoiding strikeouts. Not to mention, this could be a short start for Suarez. I don’t expect him to clear 4.5 strikeouts in Saturday’s matchup.

Shohei Ohtani had a slow start to the season, but he is starting to heat up. Check out his numbers in his last five games.

  • 8-22 (.363 batting average)
  • 1 home run
  • 2 RBIs

Ohtani hit a solo home run Friday night in Los Angeles’ victory over Chicago. This will be his first matchup against Vince Velasquez, but I wouldn’t hold that against him. He should be able to record at least one hit against the White Sox.

Don’t look now, but Mike Trout is starting to hit his stride. Trout started the season 3-15, but he’s hitting .395 since then. We could very well see another MVP season.

Initially, I was going to go with Trout recording a hit, but I feel comfortable with the value of him recording 2+ hits. Trout has achieved that mark in four of his last seven games. A plus matchup against Velasquez should help him extend that streak.

Angels vs. White Sox Pick

Pick
  • Angels to Win
    +102

This pick shouldn’t surprise anyone, as I’ve been tipping my hand towards the Los Angeles Angels. Los Angeles has the best offense in baseball, and their pitching has been improving.

It’s hard to have much confidence in the Chicago White Sox. Their offense is among the worst in the MLB, and Vince Velasquez has struggled in three starts. It’ll be tough for them to score a home victory.

Saturday’s matchup will be live on FS1 at 4:05 p.m. ET. Bettors can get in on the action by visiting SportsBetting.ag.
