Alpine Skiing Predictions and Best Bets for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing

| January 28, 2022 5:34 am PDT

With 11 events spread across six disciplines, the sport of alpine skiing takes up a sizeable chunk of the Winter Olympics schedule. That means there are plenty of alpine skiing betting opportunities to take advantage of.

I have scoured the top Winter Olympics betting sites to find the best alpine skiing bets for Beijing 2022. Keep reading to discover my alpine skiing predictions and picks for the Winter Olympics.

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde to Win the Men’s Downhill (3.25)

Aleksander Amodt Kilde heads into the Games in excellent form. Having won three of the eight downhill events in the 2021-22 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, the Norwegian finds himself leading the downhill standings with two races remaining.

Better still, he sits second in the overall standings after winning three of the five Super-G races this season. That means the 29-year-old has won eight World Cup events across the past two seasons.

Priced at 3.75, Switzerland’s Beat Feuz is viewed as Kilde’s main challenger in the men’s downhill at Beijing 2022. Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr (7.50) and Matthias Mayer (8.50) are also among the medal favorites.

But I’m backing Kilde to carry his World Cup form onto the Olympic stage. The Norwegian has already won two World Cup downhill races in 2022, adding to last month’s triumph in Colorado.

Mikaela Shiffrin to Win the Women’s Giant Slalom (4.00)

In my eyes, Mikaela Shiffrin is one of the most likely gold medal winners at Beijing 2022. Not only is she among the medal favorites in the slalom event, but she is also the bookmakers’ frontrunner for the giant slalom.

After claiming slalom gold at Sochi 2014, the most decorated American alpine skier in history won the giant slalom event at the previous Games. She also picked up the silver medal in the combined competition four years ago.

As it stands, Shiffrin is sitting pretty atop the overall World Cup rankings. Having secured two golds and a silver in six giant slalom events in 2021-22, she looks set to dominate proceedings in China.

I also made Shiffrin one of my top picks when I put together my best bets for the Winter Olympics.

Best Bets for Beijing 2022

Vincent Kriechmayr to Win the Men’s Super-G (9.50)

Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt (2.20) and Norway’s Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (3.00) are the bookies’ favorite to win gold in the men’s Super-G event at Beijing 2022. At 7.50, Germany’s Matthias Mayer is favored to collect the bronze medal.

Still, I can’t look past Vincent Kriechmayr’s juicy odds of 9.50.

Between 2018 and 2020, the Austrian registered three consecutive second-place finishes in the World Cup Super-G event. Last season, however, he finally got his hands on the top prize – winning two of the five races to clinch gold.

I’m struggling to figure out why Kriechmayr is priced at 9.50 to win the Super-G event in China. So, I recommend jumping on this bet ASAP before the bookmakers change their minds.

Petra Vlhova to Win the Women’s Slalom (1.83)

It would be a massive understatement to say that Petra Vlhova has dominated the slalom event in the World Cup this season. In truth, she has completely obliterated the competition.

The 26-year-old has won five of the seven World Cup slalom races this season, finishing second in the other two. With only a couple of races remaining, she is on course to finish miles clear of Shiffrin in the final standings.

It is also worth noting that Vlhova beat Shiffrin to the World Cup slalom title in 2020. The Slovak skier is the dominant force in slalom right now, so I’m backing her to finish atop the podium in China.

Marco Odermatt to Win the Men’s Giant Slalom (2.10)

Marco Odermatt is priced at 2.10 to win the men’s giant slalom event at Beijing 2022. Priced at 9.00 and 10.00, respectively, Alexis Pinturault and Manuel Feller are viewed as Odermatt’s biggest threats.

The odds gap between Odermatt and the rest of the field tells you everything you need to know about this guy’s chances of winning gold.

The Swiss skier clinched two giant slalom golds in the Junior World Championships before finishing second in the 2020-21 World Cup. He won two World Cup giant slalom races last season, missing out on the title by just 51 points.

He has taken his game to another level this season, winning four of the five giant slalom races in the World Cup. As a result, he finds himself leading both the giant slalom and overall standings as we head into the games.
