Aldo vs. Munhoz Betting Preview for UFC 265 – Predictions and Best Bets

Jose Aldo clashes with Pedro Munhoz at UFC 265 this Saturday, August 7.
I’ll be making my predictions for Aldo vs. Munhoz, as well as my betting pick for the fight. It’s a tough one to call, and that might be the reason why you’re here, looking for answers on who to wager on at UFC 265?
Brazil’s former dominant featherweight champion is looking for back-to-back wins for the first time at 135-pounds. Prior to Saturday’s bout, he put losses to Petr Yan and Marlon Moraes behind him before taking out Marlon Moraes in December.
Munhoz, also of Brazil, is in the same boat. He dropped back-to-back losses before edging his way back into the win column with a victory over Jimmie Rivera. Will this be his night?
I’ll be looking through the latest odds for Aldo vs. Munhoz later and making my best bets for the fight. Alongside the odds and betting tips for Aldo vs. Munhoz, I’ll provide some analysis to back up my pick.
But before any of that, here’s who wins the fight and how.
Who Wins the Aldo vs. Munhoz Fight?
- Winner: Jose Aldo
- Method of Victory: Decision
After considering everything that matters, I’m predicting a win for Aldo against Munhoz at UFC 265.
I do believe it will be as tight as the odds suggest, with “Scarface” taking the “W” on the scorecards. A narrow victory by two rounds to one looks likely.
There is a section dedicated to why Aldo wins below, so I’m not going to elaborate too much here.
Instead, we’ll work our way down to it via the odds and betting tips for the Aldo vs. Munhoz fight.
Latest Odds for Aldo vs. Munhoz (UFC 265)
The oddsmakers at BetOnline see this fight as a pick’em.
They cannot separate the two Brazilians, and the same can be said for a lot of the MMA community. This is a piece of obvious but effective matchmaking with two guys who are very similar in age, ability, and more.
Aldo’s odds to beat Munhoz opened at -138 before coming back in. The betting line is now equal, with money being placed on the latter to take the victory. Munhoz opened at +115.
I think the odds are pretty much as I expected them to be, just a few days before the fight. It’s a case of who you like best, I guess, and you already know who I’m backing.
Top Bets for Aldo vs. Munhoz
I’ve been shopping around on the top UFC gambling sites for odds and best bets for Aldo vs. Munhoz. Having taken everything into account, I’ve decided to settle on the two wagers above.
Aldo’s odds to win at UFC 265 are good enough to take. I don’t really see the need for going above this bet in a fight that is about as 50/50 as you’re going to get on the night.
If you’re looking for plus-money odds for the fight, Aldo to win by decision is probably as far as I’d recommend going. That’s not to say that the former 145-pound kingpin can’t knock Munhoz out, but his power hasn’t been there for quite some time.
One of my top betting tips for Aldo vs. Munhoz is to avoid wagering on the former to get the KO or submission. Munhoz has never been stopped in his career, and Aldo doesn’t have the pop, in my opinion, to be the first man to stop him inside the distance.
Also, despite being a legitimate blackbelt, he has just one submission win in his professional career.
Why Aldo Beats Munhoz
At the risk of repeating myself, there’s not a lot between these two.
Jose Aldo and Pedro Munhoz are both 34, with the former standing at 5’7″ at an inch above Munhoz. They are both smart, well-rounded fighters that like to keep things on their feet. Both are advocates of launching leg kicks to initiate their attacks.
Aldo has a significant advantage of five inches in reach. With Munhoz preferring a boxing-heavy style, it’s unlikely that Aldo will indulge him by giving up that reach. That means the slower man has a job on his hands trying to close the distance before he can land those bombs.
I expect Aldo to use his speed and smarts to win the first two rounds. He will have to be careful in the third, as this is around the time he typically begins to fade in his fights. If he is not efficient with his energy, there is a chance that Munhoz could clock him late.
With that said, the former champion’s experience should see him through. Ergo, the pick is Aldo by decision.
