Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets – A-League, Sunday, March 13, 2022

| March 11, 2022 5:49 am PDT

Adelaide United’s season appears to be heading in a positive direction. Having won three of their previous four games, the South Australians sit third on the A-League ladder.

At the opposite end of the standings, the Jets find themselves in ninth place – nine points behind Adelaide. Arthur Papas’ men have managed to win just four of their 14 games this season and have lost each of their previous two.

Can the Jets upset the A-League odds when they visit Hindmarsh Stadium on Sunday, March 13? Or will the Reds record their fourth win in five outings? Read on to find my Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets prediction and betting pick.

Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets Odds

Adelaide United to Win2.10
The Draw3.50
Newcastle Jets to Win3.10

In the eyes of the top-rated A-League betting sites, Adelaide (2.10) is the favorite to claim all three points on home soil. Unsurprisingly, Newcastle (3.10) heads into Sunday’s showdown as the underdog.

The high price for the home win immediately stands out here. Given that Carl Veart’s boys have won three of their last four matches, they will be extremely confident of dispatching struggling Newcastle.

Before we get to my prediction for Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets, let’s take a closer look at both sides.

Adelaide United Team News and Analysis

It is easy to forget that Adelaide started the campaign with a five-game winless run. Following three draws and back-to-back losses, the South Australians finally picked up their first victory of the season on New Year’s Day.

Since then, they have been one of the most consistent teams in the league. Not only have they lost just two of their last 11 matches, but they have also won five of their previous eight.

One of those wins came against Newcastle back in January. The Jets appeared to be heading for victory on home soil, but late goals from Nestory Irankunda and Hiroshi Ibusuki saw Adelaide turn things around in stoppage time.

Scoring goals has not been a problem for the Reds this season. Indeed, they have netted 25 goals in 16 games – meaning they are the second-highest scorers in the league.

However, if they want to chase down Melbourne City and Western United, they will need to improve defensively. There is no hiding from the fact that only four teams have conceded more goals than Adelaide’s 21.

Newcastle Jets Team News and Analysis

As I already mentioned, the Jets have won just four of their 14 games this season. Only two sides – Perth Glory and Brisbane Roar – have registered fewer victories in 2021-22.

When you look at the recent picture
Papas’ men have managed to win one of their past five encounters. They beat Western Sydney Wanderers last month but have since taken a solitary point from a possible nine.

Newcastle heads into Sunday’s clash on the back of a 3-2 defeat to Wellington Phoenix. Despite coming from behind on two occasions, the Jets conceded the final goal of the game on 88 minutes.

Beka Mikeltadze has bagged eight goals and two assists this season, while Daniel Penha has racked up two goals and eight assists. However, the Jets’ overreliance on their star duo is a cause for concern.

It is also worth pointing out that Newcastle has the worst defensive record in the A-League. Papas’ men have conceded a whopping 26 goals in 14 games, meaning they are conceding at a rate of almost 1.9 goals per game.

Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets Prediction

I’m confident that Adelaide will claim all three points at Hindmarsh Stadium. Having secured three 2-1 wins across their previous four matches, the Reds clearly know what it takes to grind out a victory.

This matchup brings together the second-highest scorers and the team with the worst defensive record in the A-League. Even if the Jets convert their chances on Sunday, the Reds will likely outscore the visitors.

Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets Pick

  • Adelaide United to Win

Believe it or not, you can more than double your money by backing Adelaide to beat Newcastle! With the South Australians leading the Jets by nine points, the home win is definitely the best bet for Adelaide vs. Newcastle.
