Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets Betting Preview – A-League, March 5, 2021

| March 3, 2021 8:20 am PDT

Adelaide United will be looking to make it three wins on the spin when Newcastle visits Coopers Stadium on Friday, March 5.

Victories over Central Coast and Western Sydney have seen the Reds climb to fifth on the A-League ladder, while the Jets find themselves third from bottom following a disappointing loss to second-bottom Wellington.

You can find my Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets prediction and betting pick below. But first, let’s take a look at the bookmakers’ odds for Friday’s A-League clash.

Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets Odds

Adelaide United to Win2.85
The Draw3.45
Newcastle Jets to Win2.30

Adelaide (2.85) currently sits two points ahead of Newcastle (2.30) in the standings, boasting a game in hand over the Jets. Still, 10bet views the away side as the favorite to win this one.

The teams have played a combined total of 19 games this season, recording just three draws between them along the way. The high price for the draw (3.45) may seem tempting here, but it isn’t a likely outcome.

Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets Match Analysis

Adelaide’s frantic start to the season continued on Saturday as Carl Veart’s men secured their second consecutive 3-2 win.

Following three straight defeats, the Reds beat the high-flying Mariners two weekends ago, with Tomi Juric netting a hat-trick of penalties. Last time out, Adelaide beat the Wanderers by the same scoreline.

Veart’s men are currently sitting fifth on the A-League ladder – eight points behind frontrunner Central Coast. However, they are only six points ahead of last-place Melbourne Victory. With just ten points separating second and twelfth, you can’t read too much into the standings at the moment.

Having bagged six goals in their last two games, the Reds are now the fourth-highest scorers in the league. But with 18 goals in the conceded column, Adelaide also has the worst defensive record.

Ultimately, Adelaide’s record of W4-D1-L4 this season makes it extremely difficult to predict how Veart’s side will fare on Friday.

Having said that, the Jets have also been wildly unpredictable so far this term.

Newcastle lost their opening four games of the campaign and looked dead and buried before a five-match unbeaten run – three wins, two draws – propelled the club up the ladder.

Craig Deans’ men secured clean-sheet wins over Melbourne City and Victory during that period, as well as taking points from Wellington, Western Sydney, and Brisbane.

However, the Jets’ hot streak was brought to an abrupt end by the Nix on Sunday. The Kiwis beat Newcastle 2-0 at McDonald Jones Stadium, despite registering just three shots on target. Meanwhile, Deans’ side racked up 18 attempts without scoring.

With just eight goals to their name, the Jets are the lowest scorers in the A-League. Still, only one team – Sydney FC – boasts a better defensive record in the division.

Adelaide United vs. Newcastle Jets Pick

  • Adelaide United to Win

It is no secret that Adelaide and Newcastle have both made inconsistent starts to the 2020/21 A-League season. But when you consider the recent form guide, the Reds seem to be improving, while the Jets have only managed to win three of their ten games this term.

Following impressive victories over the Mariners and the Wanderers, I’m expecting Adelaide to get the better of Newcastle on Friday. It probably won’t be a pretty affair, but the home team should be able to get the job done.
