Two teams in contrasting form clash at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday, February 19, as Adelaide United hosts Central Coast.

Adelaide United vs. Central Coast Mariners Odds
Adelaide (2.40) may be trailing Central Coast (2.75) by 11 points on the ladder, yet the leading online sportsbooks view the home side as the marginal favorite to win this one.
Given that Adelaide has lost three games in a row and the Mariners have won their previous three, the big price for the away win instantly stands out here.
Adelaide United vs. Central Coast Mariners Preview
Adelaide started the season in promising fashion, picking up clean-sheet wins over Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory in January. But since beating Victory, the team hasn’t been able to stop losing.
A 3-1 defeat to Brisbane Roar was followed by a 1-2 loss to Perth Glory, but last weekend’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Macarthur was a major disappointment.
Carl Veart’s men saw just 33% possession at Campbelltown Stadium, with a Matt Derbyshire hat-trick punishing their poor defensive work. Worse still, the Reds only managed to register one shot on target, while the Bulls bombarded the visitors with 25 attempts (12 on target).
That loss means that Adelaide is now just three points clear of last-place Victory and 11 points behind first-place Central Coast.
Not only are Veart’s men among the lowest scorers in the A-League, but they also have the worst defensive record in the division. Having already conceded 14 goals in seven games this term, the Reds are in danger of enduring a season to forget.
By contrast, the Mariners have set themselves up for a hugely successful campaign.
Alen Stajcic’s men have won six of their eight matches this term, with three straight victories putting them four points clear of second-place Macarthur at the summit of the A-League ladder.
After seeing off Melbourne City and Western United, coming from behind to win 3-2 on both occasions, the Yellow & Navy secured a far more convincing 0-2 victory over Wellington Phoenix last time out.
Veteran forward Matt Simon has scored in each of the Mariners’ last three games, as well as contributing an assist against City. However, it’s safe to say that Alou Kuol is grabbing the bulk of the headlines at the moment.
The 19-year-old has bagged five goals and one assist in just 319 minutes of A-League action this season, transforming Central Coast into one of Australia’s most dangerous attacking teams in the process.
Adelaide United vs. Central Coast Mariners Prediction and Pick
Central Coast Mariners to Win2.75
After making a steady start to the campaign, Adelaide United can’t seem to get it together right now. The Reds’ backline has leaked far too many goals of late, and that doesn’t bode well for the visit of Central Coast.
On the flip side, the Mariners are on a roll. Stajcic’s men are brimming with belief at the moment, so I’m backing them to secure a fourth straight win at the expense of struggling Adelaide on Friday.
