San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers Pick and Prediction – NFL Divisional Round (2022)

| January 19, 2022 4:21 pm PDT

Saturday Night Football brings us an NFC showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers were able to defeat the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round last week and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

The Packers were able to rest last week after earning the first seed in the NFC with an impressive record of 13-4. Their rest and home field advantage will play a major role in this game.

This should be a great game as the remaining NFL teams have narrowed even more in the fight for the Super Bowl. Let’s take a look at the odds for this game and why each team can win.

Odds for 49ers vs. Packers

San Francisco 49ers +6-110
Green Bay Packers -6-110
Over 47-110
Under 47-110

As you can see from the odds, the Packers are pretty decent favorites for this game. The 49ers are coming off two straight impressive wins as underdogs, so they won’t be an easy team to take down.

Aaron Rodgers and other important Green Bay Packers played about half of their Week 18 game against the Lions and rested in the Wild Card Round. It will be interesting to see if they need to shake off some rust in this game.

The point total for this game looks interesting as well set at 47. About 66% of the bets are on the over as of right now. The Packers’ spread is a popular choice in this game as well, with around 75% of the bets on it as well as the moneyline (-265).

These odds are from BetOnline, so head over there if you want to place your bets along with me.

Why the 49ers Will Win

The 49ers are some steep underdogs at (+210) odds, but that hasn’t stopped them in the last two weeks. They were able to beat the Cowboys with (+140) odds, while they beat the Rams two weeks ago with (+155) odds.

49ers bettors have been pretty happy these past two weeks, but they have an even harder challenge this week against the best team in the NFC and possibly the NFL. The Packers have been incredible this season and are probably the worst team to have to go through in the playoffs.

The 49ers have some big injuries that will be monitored this week in Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. If they are missing two key defensive players against a team like Green Bay, they won’t be happy with the outcome.

Bosa and Warner should be able to suit up if everything goes well this week, so that’s a good sign. San Francisco is going to desperately play well on both sides of the ball if they want to beat the Packers.

They should have an advantageous matchup in this game. The 49ers love to run the ball and everything goes off of it.

The Packers have been terrible defending the run this season, allowing the 3rd most yards per carry (4.7).

San Francisco can take advantage of that matchup and have a chance to win this game. That would also help them run the clock and keep the ball out of Aaron Rodgers’ hands.

Jimmy Garoppolo and the rest of the offense are going to have to have absolutely zero turnovers in this game. Possessions are crucial against Green Bay and Garoppolo cannot throw interceptions.

The 49ers’ offense is going to have to dominate in the run game to win, just like they have all year.

Why the Packers Will Win

Green Bay is a menacing team, especially in their home stadium. Since head coach Matt LaFleur took over in 2019, the Packers have a 41-12 record at home (77.4% winning percentage).

That is only behind the Kansas City Chiefs (44-12, .78.6% winning percentage), who have made the Super Bowl the past two seasons.

Aaron Rodgers is incredibly efficient and is Cooper Kupp’s main competition in the MVP race.

Rodgers is the front runner for the MVP and has led the Packers to another incredible season. He has 37 passing touchdowns and just 4 interceptions on the year. He is the main reason why the 49ers cannot turn the ball over in this game.

Luckily for the Packers, Jimmy Garoppolo has not been very sharp in his past 3 games. Garoppolo has 2 touchdowns in the past three games to go along with a whopping 5 interceptions.

The Packers are also great at catching interceptions with 18 as a team this year (6th most in NFL). Jaire Alexander and Za’Darius Smith both have a chance to return for the Packers this week, which would be a huge addition to their defense.

If you give Aaron Rodgers a strong defense, there is a good chance you finish the season with a Super Bowl trophy in your hands. The Packers’ run defense will be a major factor in this game and the 49ers are sure to try and exploit it.

They don’t have to be perfect against the run, but they can’t just let the 49ers run all over them. They need to force Garoppolo to pass and try to force a turnover.

Green Bay has been incredible all season and are more than capable of beating the 49ers and winning the Super Bowl.

My Pick for 49ers vs. Packers

The 49ers have been my go to team for betting in the past two weeks, but I can’t pull the trigger this week. I think the Packers are the absolute team to beat in the NFC and probably in the NFL. They should be able to make the Super Bowl at least since they are playing at Green Bay for all of their games.

You can head over to the best NFL betting sites to bet on them to win the Super Bowl, or even just to win this game.

The odds aren’t too great when looking at the moneyline (-250), but it is probably a safe bet here. I also am loving the over for this game. San Francisco is banged up defensively, but their offense is capable of a big game here. Deebo Samuel has been impossible to stop and can have another huge day, as well as other 49ers’ offensive players.

The Packers are probably even harder to stop with Rodgers, Davante Adams, and other great players. I think this game could be a shootout and hit the over. I like the Packers’ moneyline and the over, but the over has better odds so that’s my official recommended bet.
