Odds and Best Bets for Lyon vs. Toulon – 2022 European Challenge Cup Final

| May 26, 2022 7:24 am PDT

I’ve been analyzing the 2022 European Challenge Cup final odds for Lyon vs. Toulon, and I know who I’m backing.

The big game goes down at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, France this Friday, May 27. If you’re looking to bet on Lyon vs. Toulon, I’ll be touching on the top bets for the 2022 European Challenge Cup final, as well as making my customary predictions for the match.

If you’ve found your way here looking for the other major rugby final this weekend, you can find my full betting guide for the 2022 Heineken Champions Cup. But seeing as you are here now, why not explore the possibility of making a profit from this game, too?

Let’s start with those odds for Lyon vs. Toulon in the 2022 European Challenge Cup final and work our way through the rest!

2022 European Challenge Cup Odds for Lyon vs. Toulon

  • Lyon to Win +190
  • Toulon to Win -250

I’ve taken the odds for the 2022 European Challenge Cup final from Betway.

These guys are always on point when it comes to great betting markets for rugby matches, so feel free to get your bets down on their site. Of course, if you’re looking for Lyon vs. Toulon odds for May 27, 2022, elsewhere, I’ll tell you how you can find them soon.

Before I do that, let’s talk prices here. Lyon’s odds to beat Toulon come in at +190. That means a successful $100 bet will net $190 in profit, with a total return of $290 including that stake. In other words, they are considered the weaker team in the final.

Three-time Heineken Cup winners, Toulon, are favored by the bookies to win. At -250, Lyon’s Top 14 rivals are clearly considered the team to back. That’s despite being just one point ahead of Pierre Mignoni’s team. You need to place $250 down to win $100 in profit if you are wagering on the 2022 European Challenge Cup final going their way.

Alternatively, let’s get to my preview of the 2022 European Challenge Cup final.

Lyon vs. Toulon Preview – European Challenge Cup (2022)

To say Cheslin Kolbe’s return for Toulon has come just at the right time would be pointing out the obvious.

But if you’re making betting picks for the 2022 European Challenge Cup final, obvious is good. Any factor that blatantly sets one team apart from the other is what we are looking for here. When risking your money, you want to see some return from your Lyon vs. Toulon odds and bets.

Although this is a team sport, having an x-factor like the Springbok to call upon can be potentially game-changing.

Even if he is not 100% fit, the clinical winger’s presence alone could be enough to demand changes and adjustments from the opposition.

Lyon is also the recipient of some positive, last-minute news. Captain Jordan Taufua will play on Friday, having been given the green light. The Kiwi’s inclusion will serve as a huge boost to those around him, as the underdogs aim to snap a 100%, six-game losing streak to their rivals in Europe.

Lyon vs. Toulon – Who is the Better Team?

Based on recent form, there doesn’t appear to be a lot separating these two.

A quick look at the Top 14 table shows that Toulon sits at 7th with 64 points, just above Lyon in 8th with 63. Of course, domestic results only tell some of the story. Especially when it comes to a one-game shootout for the trophy.

In this competition, Toulon has the historic advantages over Lyon. Six wins from six is not a bad statistic to carry into this final. But Lyon has not lost a game en route to the final. That’s also a very nice position to be in.

This game is bound to be a very physical one, with the stronger side in the set-piece likely to dictate the flow of the match. The battle between Toulon’s Eben Etzebeth and Lyon’s Joel Kpoku is one I’m looking forward to, but the overall war at scrum time should make for great viewing.

Lyon vs. Toulon Predictions for the 2022 European Challenge Cup Final

  • Winner: Toulon
  • Predicted Score: Lyon 16-35 Toulon

Although it should be an absolute war, I can see plenty of tries being scored in this match.

In their last encounter, Toulon put a pasting on Lyon, winning by 42-10 in their rivals’ backyard in April. Now on a six-game win streak, they will be looking to test Mignoni’s men with a strong pack and some exceptional finishers.

Lyon makes their first major final since 1933. That’s an incredible feat for the one-time minnows, who continue to make improvements across the board. No 2022 European Challenge Cup predictions worth their salt will overlook the immense pressure on Mignoni’s team to deliver.

An impressive comeback against Wasps cemented their date with history. It was also their very first semi-final appearance and one which demanded nerves of steel. Seven wins later, they need all cylinders fired up and ready to go to have a chance at lifting the cup.

Star fly-half Leo Berdeu, currently the top scorer in France’s Top 14, will need his pack to create space for him to thrive. But this is an area that I don’t envisage Toulon being easy to topple. However, Lyon has a phenomenal set of forwards than can do damage.

With that said, so does Toulon. And that’s what will ultimately give them the ascendency in this match. The game will be an arm-wrestle for the first 20 minutes but expect the quality of the former European kingpins to keep that scoreboard ticking over.

I’m going for a commanding victory for Toulon.

2022 European Challenge Cup Final Best Bets

  • Toulon to Win (-250)
  • Toulon -9.5 Points (+150)
  • Cheslin Kolbe as First Try Scorer (+900)

Before I leave you to make your bets, here are my betting tips for the 2022 European Challenge Cup final.

The first of my suggested picks for Lyon vs. Toulon is for the more conservative bettor. Take Toulon to beat Lyon at -250.

2022 European Challenge Cup Bonus Tip

  • You could double up by betting Toulon to win (-250) and Leinster to beat La Rochelle by more than 10.5 points (-120). A two-way parlay/double will net $156.67.
  • If you’d like to know what is in another format, our betting odds converter will calculate that for you.

Additionally, I like the look of Toulon -9.5 points at +150. I think Kolbe alone is worth 10 points on the board for the favorites, if he is even at 80% of his best this Friday.

Finally, why not get on the Springbok star’s odds to score the first try in the 2022 European Challenge Cup? At +900, he’s worth a go!

That’s my 2022 European Challenge Cup betting preview done. If you’re still uncertain about who to back and why, perhaps these expert tips for betting on rugby will come in handy!

Good luck and enjoy the game!
