Betting Preview for the 2021 NASCAR GEICO 500

| April 22, 2021 5:09 am PDT

If you’re looking to make money on this weekend’s NASCAR, my predictions and picks for the GEICO 500 can help.

The race gets underway at the famous Talladega Superspeedway this Sunday, April 25th. I’ll be talking you through the best GEICO 500 odds and bets for the race and helping you identify the top candidates for the event.

Cup Series leader Denny Hamlin is the betting favorite for the 2021 GEICO 500. Hamlin has eight top-5 finishes in this year’s campaign but is still waiting on his first victory. His win at the YellaWood 500 in October is seemingly behind the bookmaker’s logic for making him the leading man at Talladega, but does he represent good value?

I’ll be revealing my tips for the race a little later. First, check out the latest odds for the next stop on the Cup Series calendar.

2021 GEICO 500 Odds

You can find the best odds for the GEICO 500 via the top online sportsbooks.

You’ll struggle to find a better price than +650 for Hamlin with any online NASCAR betting site, but feel to compare the odds for the race. It seems unlikely that the Joe Gibbs Racing star will lose the spotlight as the man to beat before Sunday, but if you are looking past Hamlin, there are plenty of options available.

Ryan Blaney, for example, is a good shout at +1000. On paper, Blaney is solid value at these odds. But given his topsy-turvy form in 2021, will he fare well in my predictions for the 2021 GEICO 500?

Let’s move on to the top contenders for the race to find out.

Top Candidates to Win the 2021 GEICO 500

  • Where: Talladega Superspeedway, Alabama
  • When: Sunday, April 25

The first of my predictions for the GEICO 500 is that it will be another close race.

There are a few drivers with solid track records here and goes for the event and Talladega as a whole. On the flip side, there are some drivers with solid chances but little to no betting value at all.

For example, the 2019 winner, Chase Elliott is +1100. But I haven’t seen enough from him in 2021 to really plug him ahead of this weekend. Aric Almirola (+1500) and Kurt Busch (+1600) are also a bit… meh.

With that, here are my four leading candidates for the race.

Denny Hamlin +650
Joey Logano+900
Ryan Blaney+1000
Brad Keselowski+1100

Key Betting Trends for the GEICO 500

  • 2020 Winner: Ryan Blaney
  • 2020 Winning Team and Manufacturer: Joe Gibbs Racing/Toyota
  • Most Successful Active Driver in This Race: Brad Keselowski (3 Wins)
  • Most Wins (Active Teams): Hendrick Motorsports (8)
  • Most Successful Active Manufacturer: Chevrolet (20)

I’m sure anyone with experience of betting on NASCAR races knows just how difficult it is to win this one. Despite that, some drivers tend to fare better here than others.

For instance, Brad Keselowski is the only active Cup Series driver with multiple wins in the GEICO 500. Of all drivers taking to the grid this Sunday, only two have won at Talladega more than once in the Cup Series. Keselowski is one and the other is Logano.

But alongside the flashy stats, it’s worth pointing out that no one has won back-to-back GEICO 500s since 2004/5. Before that, only Dale Earnhardt Jr. (2) and Dave Pearson (3) managed consecutive wins in this one.

Well, I think we have covered everything apart from my ultimate 2021 GEICO 500 prediction — who wins?

GEICO 500 Pick for 2021

  • Joey Logano

Logano is my winner’s prediction for the GEICO 500.

The 2018 Cup Series champion has been in steady form this season, picking up runner-up spots in both the O’Reilly Autoparts 253 and the InstaCart 500, before winning in Bristol and clinching 3rd in Richmond last weekend.

He has the record at Talladega, will have the speed, and also seems to be recapturing his best form.
