Betting Preview of the 2021 F1 Spanish Grand Prix
A classic performance from Lewis Hamilton was enough to clinch the Portuguese Grand Prix last weekend.
In this 2021 Spanish Grand Prix preview, I’ll be making my predictions and picks ahead of the race this Sunday, May 9. Can Hamilton make it an Iberian double at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, or will Max Verstappen pip the Brit in the latest stop on the F1 calendar?
The odds for the Spanish GP have been released, with Hamilton the favorite to win. Verstappen is just behind him, with Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez rounding off the top four candidates to win in Catalonia.
If you’re gambling on the Spanish Grand Prix this Sunday, feast your eyes on the odds below.
Latest Odds for the Spanish Grand Prix in 2021
If you’re looking for the best online odds for the 2021 Spanish Grand Prix, Bovada is a good place to start.
As already pointed out, Hamilton comes in as the favorite to win. It’s rare to see the Brit at plus money odds, but Max Verstappen’s potency this season means the winner of the Grand Prix in Spain is not a foregone conclusion.
It’s difficult to look past the Mercedes and Red Bull stars for the race. Both men have wins, but Hamilton has proven himself to be a master here. His odds are particularly attractive, given his four consecutive wins going back to 2017. He has five in total, having first taken the checkered flag in 2014 and won last in 2020.
Verstappen is looking for his second victory at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, having won his maiden Grand Prix here in 2016.
If you’re placing wagers on the Spanish Grand Prix in 2021, I recommend looking past any driver other than these two.

2021 Spanish Grand Prix Predictions and Picks
- Winner – Lewis Hamilton
- Pole – Max Verstappen
- Fastest Lap – Lewis Hamilton
- Podium – Sergio Perez
- Dark Horse – Lando Norris
My 2021 Spanish Grand Prix betting pick is Lewis Hamilton.
The defending Drivers’ Championship king is too hard to ignore, with five victories in this race over the years. Four of which have come on the bounce. Expect the Englishman to take first place, but it won’t be the easiest race of his life.
Verstappen should clinch pole and will be doggedly determined to keep himself in contention for his first-ever championship victory. The Red Bull man will start off well, but Hamilton’s ascendency will see him hold off the Dutchman’s threat from the midway point.
I’m taking Hamilton for the fastest lap in Spain.
Verstappen will have speed in Catalonia, but this is Hamilton’s track, and his experience should pay dividends.
I’m going for a Hamilton-Verstappen-Sergio Perez podium, but I can see Lando Norris enjoying another successful day in the current campaign. I think Norris could pose a threat to the frontrunners greater than any other contender.
Why Hamilton Wins the 2021 Spanish Grand Prix
Hamilton clinched the 30th race held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya since its inclusion in the F1 calendar.
As he has done over the past few years, he takes to the grid as the favorite. Besides being the best driver in the sport and behind the wheel of a monster of a car, he has shown himself to navigate the track better than anyone else. Mercedes has pretty much owned things since the dawn of the hybrid era.
I didn’t stress over making my prediction for the 2021 Spanish Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton, barring any hiccups, should impose his dominance at a track that isn’t exactly the most spectator-friendly. Catalonia is, quite often, a boring Grand Prix. There is little to no scope for overtaking, and it is usually a linear run. All of which suits the Brit.
Gaining the leverage within the first 25 laps will be crucial for Hamilton, who will ensure his dominance at high-speed corners. More than this, tire management will likely come into play, and this is another advantage that goes Hamilton’s way.
