2021 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix Preview and Picks
The Formula One roadshow hits Europe for the first time this year with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. Or the Gran Premio dell’Emilia Romagna, for the Italian speakers out there.
The action goes down at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari this Sunday, April 18. If you aren’t exactly excited for the race at the Venue of Legends, the opportunities to win money betting the F1’s next race will get your pulse racing.
I’ll be covering the latest odds for the Emilia-Romagna GP and providing my predictions and pick for the F1 this weekend. That means looking at the defending champion/betting favorite Lewis Hamilton for anyone gambling on the F1 showdown and whether he can be beaten by anyone on the grid this Sunday.
Let’s get my betting preview up and running with a look at the latest odds for the Emilia-Romagna GP in 2021.
2021 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix Odds
Last year, Lewis Hamilton’s odds to win the Emilia-Romagna GP came in at -250.
The Mercedes legend stormed to victory, further cementing his claim as the greatest driver since Michael Schumacher and arguably even better.
A bold claim. But Hamilton has, pretty much, swept everything in front of him for as long as it matters. And his masterclass win in Bahrain in the season opener a couple of weeks back makes his odds for a win in Imola this weekend look even prettier.
Max Verstappen’s odds to win the F1 this Sunday put him on par with the defending F1 Constructors’ Champion.
The flying Dutchman finished 2nd on the final grid, having taken pole in the Persian Gulf. A solid performance from Verstappen, certainly, and one that he can build on in Italy this weekend.
Making up the rest of the odds for the top candidates for Imola is Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate, Valtteri Bottas +650, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez +1000, and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc +4000.
Best Bets for the 2021 Emilia-Romagna GP
- Winner – Lewis Hamilton
- Pole – Valtteri Bottas
- Fastest Lap – Max Verstappen
- Podium – Lando Norris
- Dark Horse – Charles Leclerc
My top bets for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in 2021 can be found above.
As you can see, my 2021 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix betting pick is Lewis Hamilton, who I accurately predicted would win in Bahrain on March 14, despite Mercedes looking a little frayed around the edges in pre-season practice.
Hamilton went on to win his fifth Bahrain Grand Prix. This weekend, I believe he will pick up two wins from races in this event.
The second of my Emilia-Romagna predictions and picks is Valtteri Bottas for the pole. Like Hamilton’s win in 2020, I like Bottas to clinch the position at the top of the grid for the second year running. Look to the Emilia-Romagna prop bets a little closer to the race if you like this bet.
Max Verstappen should claim the fastest lap en route to a second successive runner-up spot. Verstappen will be gunning to beat Hamilton to the win but will ultimately fall short.
Lando Norris is my renegade pick for the 2021 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. He could earn a podium finish very well if he shows the same type of mettle that he did in Bahrain.
Finally, Charles Leclerc’s odds to win the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix are a long shot at +4000. However, I’m predicting a surprisingly good race for the Monegasque, who could end up muscling his way into the front of the pack.
But there must be a winner. And here’s why I’m backing the best man for the job.
Why Hamilton Wins the 2021 Emilia-Romagna Prix
If there was any doubt regarding Lewis Hamilton’s genius, he addressed his detractors in style in Bahrain.
The manner of Hamilton’s victory was ominous to those planning to take the Brit down. As it happens, Verstappen is considered the only man with a genuine chance of doing it. Red Bull had a better car in the Persian Gulf, but the classier operator won the race.
A slower car and slacker tires were not enough to keep the world champion from winning the season opener, and I’m betting on Hamilton coming through in Imola with two from two in this campaign. With Mercedes set to employ technical tweaks to the W12, Hamilton will be hoping for more pace in Italy this Sunday.
Among my best predictions for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in 2021 is that the RB16B once again sets the pace. But with Hamilton behind the wheel of the W12, it looks like it could be another technical clinic where the Dutchman once again comes second.
