| September 3, 2021 9:29 am PDT

It’s time to place your 2021/22 UEFA Champions League bets!

With the new UCL campaign set to kick off on Tuesday, September 14, I thought it would be a good idea to put together my top Champions League picks for this season.

Betting on the UCL winner in 2021/22? Wagering on the Champions League Golden Boot this season? Gambling on the UCL group winners? I cover all those markets – and more – in this piece.

Let’s get right into it!

My Pick for the Champions League Winner in 2021/22

The first of my top UCL bets for 2021/22 concerns the winner of the tournament. Before we go any further, let’s take a look at the bookmakers’ odds for the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League winner.

  • Paris Saint-Germain (4.50)
  • Manchester City (4.50)
  • Bayern Munich (8.00)
  • Chelsea (8.00)
  • Liverpool (10.00)
  • Manchester United (11.00)
  • Real Madrid (13.00)
  • Juventus (18.00)
  • Barcelona (20.00)
  • Atletico Madrid (23.00)

In the eyes of the best online sports betting sites there are two clear favorites to win the UCL in 2021/22 – Paris-Saint Germain (4.50) and Manchester City (4.50).

Next up, Bayern Munich (8.00) sit alongside defending champion Chelsea (8.00), while Liverpool (10.00), Manchester United (11.00), and Real Madrid (13.00) are also in the mix.

Juventus (18.00), Barcelona (20.00), and Atletico Madrid (23.00) complete the top ten.

It is worth pointing out that the bookies’ prices have changed significantly since my early betting preview for the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League was published at the beginning of August.

Follow the link below for a more in-depth look at all the UCL favorites.

Of course, Lionel Messi’s arrival in Paris has transformed PSG into a genuine contender. On the flip side, Barcelona now finds itself outside the bookies’ group of clear frontrunners.

By the same token, Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Man Utd has seen the Red Devils’ price drop. With Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane also at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side must be taken seriously.

Although PSG and Man City are the frontrunners – and teams like Bayern Munich and Liverpool are also expected to challenge for the trophy – I really like the look of Chelsea at 8.00.

Not only do the Blues know what it takes to go all the way, but they also have a world-class manager. Since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea has arguably been the strongest team in Europe.

On top of that, Romelu Lukaku is back in the blue jersey. If the prolific Belgian striker picks up where he left off last season, it wouldn’t be a shock if Tuchel’s men defended their crown.

  • Pick: Chelsea to Win the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League (8.00)

Best Bet for the 2021/22 UCL Golden Boot

Betting on the Champions League top goalscorer is always fun – and with so many world-class forwards in the game at the moment, wagering on the UCL Golden Boot in 2021/22 should be no different.

Here are the 2021/22 Champions League Golden Boot odds.

  • Erling Haaland (5.00)
  • Robert Lewandowski (6.00)
  • Lionel Messi (8.00)
  • Romelu Lukaku (8.00)
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (10.00)
  • Karim Benzema (11.00)
  • Kylian Mbappe (11.00)
  • Mohamed Salah (13.00)
  • Neymar (21.00)
  • Ferran Torres (26.00)

It is no real surprise to find Erling Haaland (5.00) atop the bookies’ UCL top scorer odds list. I mean, the guy is a freak! At just 21, the Borussia Dortmund star already has 20 goals in 16 UCL appearances.

That said, does Dortmund stand a good chance of reaching the latter stages of the competition? I don’t think so. Haaland is likely to play fewer games than many of his Golden Boot rivals, giving him fewer opportunities to score goals.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Ferran Torres (26.00) is the only Man City player among the top ten here. The Spaniard has proved that he is capable of finding the back of the net on a regular basis – and Pep Guardiola’s side could go far.

While you would be foolish to write off players such as Robert Lewandowski (6.00), Romelu Lukaku (8.00), and Cristiano Ronaldo (10.00), one name stands out from the crowd here – Lionel Messi (8.00).

In terms of value, I think Messi is the best bet for the Champions League Golden Boot this season. In fact, his switch from Barcelona to PSG has probably enhanced his chances of finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner will almost certainly carry his new club deep into the competition. Oh, and let’s not forget that he will be feeding off Kylian Mbappe AND Neymar!

The second-highest Champions League scorer of all time, Messi, has won the UCL Golden Boot six of the past 15 seasons. Backing him to win it again makes perfect sense to me.

  • Pick: Lionel Messi to Win the 2021/22 UCL Golden Boot (8.00)

Top Picks for the Champions League Groups in 2021/22

Fancy getting your hands on some cash before the knockout phase? If so, check out my best bets for the Champions League group winners.

Liverpool to Win Group B (1.91)

Liverpool (1.91) is the favorite to win Group B, ahead of Atletico Madrid (3.00), AC Milan (6.00), and Porto (9.50).

The Reds have been immense the Champions League in recent years, losing the final in 2018 before triumphing a year later. Given their firepower, Jurgen Klopp’s men should win their group without any real problems.

Borussia Dortmund to Win Group C (1.57)

If you’re looking for safe Champions League bets this season, look no further than Borussia Dortmund (1.57) to win Group C. With Ajax (4.50), Sporting (5.50), and Besiktas (9.00) also in this group, Dortmund is destined to come out on top.

Haaland will almost certainly chalk up a ton of goals in the group stage, adding to his outrageous tally. With guys like Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna playing supporting roles, BVB should cruise into the knockout phase.

Inter Milan to Win Group D (3.50)

Real Madrid (1.33) is the bookies’ clear favorite to win Group D. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Inter Milan (3.00) upset the UCL odds and finished above Los Blancos.

With Shakhtar Donetsk (13.00) and Sheriff Tiraspol (101.00) also in Group D, it’s a two-horse race for the top spot. Considering Real Madrid’s recent downturn, the reigning Serie A champions will fancy their chances of winning their group.

Sevilla to Win Group G (2.38)

Wolfsburg (3.50), Lille (4.00), and Red Bull Salzburg (5.50) have all been drawn into Group G, alongside Sevilla (2.38). In my eyes, the Spanish side should come out on top here.

The 2019/20 UEFA Europa League winners secured back-to-back fourth-place finishes in La Liga last season, underlining their strength. With this in mind, I’m backing Sevilla to win Group G.

More 2021/22 UEFA Champions League Bets

Let’s wrap things up by taking a quick look at some more Champions League betting picks for the 2021/22 season.

Besiktas to Qualify From Group C (3.50)

While Dortmund should win Group C, the other three teams in the group – Ajax, Sporting, and Besiktas – all stand a real chance of finishing second and qualifying for the knockouts.

Ajax is priced at 1.67 to qualify from Group C, while Sporting is at 2.20. But if Besiktas avoid defeat on home soil and pick up points on the road, there is no reason why they can’t finish second.

Villarreal to Qualify From Group F (2.00)

Man Utd (1.22) is expected to qualify from Group F without any issues, while Young Boys (9.00) is the obvious outsider. Elsewhere, Atalanta (1.40) and Villarreal (2.00) look set to battle it out for second place.

I really like the look of Villarreal’s price to qualify from Group F, especially when you consider that Unai Emery’s team beat Man Utd to win the Europa League title last term.

An English Team to Lift the Trophy (2.00)

With Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man Utd all among the bookies’ six favorites to win the 2021/22 Champions League, the chances of the English team lifting the trophy are pretty high.

France (3.75), Germany (6.00), Spain (6.50), Italy (11.00), and Any Other Nation (19.00) are the other options in this market, but it feels like the nationality of the winning team is likely to be England.
