Spurs Appoint Antonio Conte as Manager – What Can They Achieve in 2021-22?

| November 3, 2021 6:47 am PDT

On Monday, November 1, Tottenham Hotspur sacked Nuno Espirito Santo after only four months in charge. The very next day, the club appointed Antonio Conte.

Nuno won five and lost five of his ten Premier League games as Tottenham manager, leaving the club ninth in the table – ten points behind first-place Chelsea.

Conte has signed an 18-month deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Funnily enough, the 52-year-old Italian was targeted by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy before Nuno’s appointment in the summer.

So, what can the former Chelsea, Juventus, and Inter Milan boss achieve at Tottenham? Can Spurs win the Premier League title this season? Or could they clinch the FA Cup?

Let’s see what the bookmakers think.

Latest Tottenham Odds for the 2021-22 Season

Tottenham to Win the Premier League151.00
Tottenham to Finish in the Top Four8.00
Tottenham to Finish in the Top Six2.40
Tottenham to Win the FA Cup15.00
Tottenham to Win the EFL Cup6.00

As you can see, even the very best soccer betting sites believe that Tottenham stands a very slim chance of claiming the Premier League title this season.

Yes, Conte is a proven trophy winner, but there is no hiding from the fact that Spurs are already miles behind the early EPL frontrunners.

A top-six finish is still very much achievable, while a top-four finish isn’t out of the question altogether.

Let’s not forget that Spurs have already booked their spot in the EFL Cup quarter-finals. With the FA Cup yet to commence, Conte will surely be confident of getting his hands on some silverware this term.

It’s time to take a closer look at Conte’s credentials.

Antonio Conte is a Serial Winner

It is hardly surprising that Levy targeted Conte when Tottenham was looking for a new manager during the offseason. However, the chairman failed to persuade him to join in the summer.

Fast-forward four months, and Conte is now the man in the hot seat.

The Italian has enjoyed a hugely successful managerial career up to now. He won multiple titles at Juventus before going on to achieve big things with both Chelsea and Inter Milan.

  • Juventus (2011-2014) – 3x Serie A titles, 2x Supercoppa Italiana
  • Chelsea (2016-2018) – 1x Premier League title, 1x FA Cup
  • Inter Milan (2019-2021) – 1x Serie A title, 1x Europa League runner-up

Conte led Juventus to three straight Serie A titles, as well as successive Supercoppa Italianas. He then won the EPL title with Chelsea before clinching the FA Cup in the following year.

Last season, the 52-year-old guided Inter to its first scudetto since 2010 – ending Juve’s decade-long hegemony over Serie A in the process.

At the end of the day, Conte wins trophies wherever he goes.

Can Conte Guide Tottenham to Glory?

I think it’s safe to say that Tottenham is out of the EPL title race this season. With Chelsea and Liverpool seemingly out of reach, it would take something very special to catch them.

Still, backing Spurs to finish in the top four isn’t a bad idea at all. If Conte can get the best out of superstars like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, Tottenham will start climbing the table.

Conte won both the EPL title and FA Cup during his time at Chelsea, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he picked up another piece of domestic silverware this season.

Spurs beat Wolves and Burnley to reach the quarter-finals of EFL Cup last month. That means they are only three wins away from lifting that trophy.

There is the small matter of the FA Cup, too. Tottenham is priced at 15.00 to win that competition. With Conte at the wheel, those odds suddenly look very tasty.
