Soccer Sportsbooks Expect Man City to Defend EPL Title in 2022-23

| May 24, 2022 4:45 am PDT

  • Manchester City is the bookies’ favorite to win the 2022-23 English Premier League title.
  • Pep Guardiola’s side recently claimed their fourth EPL crown in five years.
  • Liverpool is regarded as Man City’s only genuine title challenger for next season.

The 2021-22 English Premier League season may have only finished last weekend, but many of the top soccer betting sites have already released their odds for next season.

Manchester City clinched the title in dramatic circumstances last Sunday, coming from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2. If the early 2022-23 EPL title odds are anything to by, Pep Guardiola’s men are in pole position to defend their crown.

Can Liverpool edge out Man City next season? Will Chelsea close the gap on the two frontrunners? And what about Newcastle United? It’s time to check out the odds.

Opening 2022-23 Premier League Title Odds

Manchester City1.66
Manchester United21.00
Tottenham Hotspur26.00
Newcastle United34.00
Leicester City101.00
West Ham United101.00
Wolverhampton Wanderers201.00

According to the early 2022-23 Premier League odds at Betway, Man City (1.66) is the obvious favorite to win the title. As you can see, the bookies expect Liverpool (3.25) to push the Cityzens all the way once again.

Chelsea (15.00), Manchester United (21.00), and Tottenham (26.00) complete the top five. Meanwhile, Arsenal (34.00) and Newcastle (34.00) are the only other teams priced under 100.00.

Brighton (251.00), Everton (251.00), Aston Villa (501.00), Crystal Palace (501.00), Southampton (501.00), Brentford (751.00), Leeds (751.00), Bournemouth (1001.00), and Fulham (1001.00) are not expected to compete for the trophy.

Man City Tipped to Dominate Once Again

Having edged out Liverpool by just a single point on the final day of the 2021-22 campaign, Guardiola’s men have now won four of the last five EPL titles. When you look at the bigger picture, Man City has won six of the previous 11.

Dominating a league as competitive as the EPL is extremely difficult. Still, the Cityzens have managed to maintain a freakishly high level of consistency over the past years.

  • 2017-18: Manchester City
  • 2018-19: Manchester City
  • 2019-20: Liverpool
  • 2020-21: Manchester City
  • 2021-22: Manchester City

Of course, City’s squad is littered with world-class stars. From phenomenal defenders such as Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo to amazing attackers like Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden, Guardiola is spoiled for choice in every single department.

But the imminent arrival of Erling Haaland will make Man City EVEN stronger. After netting 86 goals in 89 games for Borussia Dortmund, Haaland has the potential to take City to another level.

Can Liverpool End Man City’s Dominance?

If it weren’t for Man City, Liverpool would have won more EPL titles in recent years. However, the relentless Cityzens have prevented the Reds from adding more silverware to their trophy cabinet.

Jurgen Klopp’s boys suffered a solitary defeat during the 2018-19 season but still finished one point behind Man City. Although they won the title the following year, they finished one point behind City once again in 2021-22.

With the future of Mohamed Salah still up in the air, it is difficult to predict how Liverpool will fare next season. Granted, the January arrival of Luis Diaz has improved the team. But can the Merseysiders outperform Man City?

Could Anyone Else Win the Title?

If Betway’s 2022-23 EPL odds are anything to go by, Chelsea will be the biggest threat to Man City and Liverpool next season. The Blues faded towards the end of the previous campaign but are expected to bounce back.

It is no secret that Man Utd endured a season to forget in 2021-22. However, the arrival of Erik ten Hag should spark a much-needed revival at Old Trafford.

Tottenham is also expected to kick on under the guidance of Antonio Conte, having secured Champions League soccer for next season.

Interestingly, Arsenal and Newcastle are both priced at 34.00 to win the 2022-23 Premier League title. Fifth-place Arsenal finished 20 points clear of eleventh-place Newcastle last term, but the Magpies look set to spend big in the offseason.
