Odds and Schedule Released for the 2022-23 Big Bash League

- The 2022-23 Big Bash League is scheduled to commence on December 13.
- Also known as BBL|12, the tournament is set to conclude on February 4.
- The Perth Scorchers are the bookmakers’ favorites to win the title.
Fear not, T20 fans – the twelfth edition of the Big Bash League is less than five months away!
The 2022-23 season is scheduled to start on December 13, with the Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars kicking things off at Canberra’s Manuka Oval. With the decider slated for February 4, we are set for eight weeks of thrilling action.
If the early 2022-23 Big Bash League odds are anything to go by, the Perth Scorchers are in pole position to defend their crown. However, the Sydney Sixers will be desperate to reclaim the title after dominating in recent years.
Before we take a closer look at the schedule and the standout clashes, let’s check out the early winner odds for BBL|12.
Big Bash League Winner Odds for 2022-23
All the best cricket betting sites favor the Perth Scorchers to defend their title. The Western Australians have reached seven of the past 11 BBL finals, winning four and losing three.
As expected, the Sydney Sixers are viewed as Perth’s nearest rivals. The Sixers won back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021 before losing last season’s final. Can they return to the top once again in 2023?
As you can see, the Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades are the bookies’ outsiders. The Queenslanders haven’t reached a final since triumphing in 2013, while the Renegades have finished last in the previous three seasons.
That said, the Gades’ shock victory over the Stars in the 2019 decider will always be remembered as one of the top Big Bash League moments of all time.
BBL|12 Schedule – Key Dates and Standout Fixtures
The regular season is scheduled to run from December 13 to January 25. During that period, we will be able to enjoy two Melbourne Derby showdowns and two editions of the Sydney Smash.
The postseason begins on January 27, with the final slated for February 4. Here are all the key dates for BBL|12.
- Opening Match: Sydney Thunder vs. Melbourne Stars (December 13)
- Melbourne Derby: Melbourne Stars vs. Melbourne Renegades (January 3)
- Sydney Smash: Sydney Thunder vs. Sydney Sixers (January 8)
- Melbourne Derby: Melbourne Renegades vs. Melbourne Stars (January 14)
- Sydney Derby: Sydney Sixers vs. Sydney Thunder (January 21)
- Eliminator: TBC vs. TBC (January 27)
- Qualifier: TBC vs. TBC (January 28)
- Knockout: TBC vs. TBC (January 29)
- Challenger: TBC vs. TBC (February 2)
- Decider: TBC vs. TBC (February 4)
Following a COVID-ravaged 2021-22 season, all eight teams will have seven home matches in 2022-23. This will mean a return to Optus Stadium for the Scorchers, who played just one home match in BBL|11 due to Western Australia’s border restrictions.
On top of that, the league will expand to 17 venues across the country following the announcement that Albury will host its first competitive men’s Big Bash match.
Top Players Confirmed for the Big Bash Draft
For the first time ever, the Big Bash League will hold a draft for overseas players this year. We may be more than four months away from the new season, but many high-profile players have already been confirmed.
West Indies legends Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard will be among the most sought-after players in the draft. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis and New Zealand’s Colin Munro will also be hugely popular.
Other standout draft nominations include Qais Ahmad, David Wiese, Todd Astle, Marchant de Lange, Rilee Rossouw, Sheldon Cottrell, and Ravi Rampaul.
Naturally, these overseas stars will aim to emulate the greatest players in Big Bash League history.
