Detroit Pistons Favored to Land Deandre Ayton for 2022-23 in Free Agency
One of the biggest names in the NBA free agent market is Phoenix Suns’ center Deandre Ayton. Technically he is a restricted free agent, but Phoenix hasn’t seemed eager to give him a contract that he wants.
That could mean both parties want to head in different directions. If that is the case, then there could be a good amount of teams who are eager to pay up for him.
With that being said, an anchor like Ayton is a help to basically any team. He instantly gives any team a boost in the paint on both ends of the floor. Not only is he already an impact player, Ayton’s also just turning 24 soon.
Let’s see what the odds are looking like for his 2022-23 team if he leaves the Phoenix Suns.
Odds for Deandre Ayton’s Next Team (If Not Suns)
The Suns do have first dibs and could give him a big extension if they want to keep their main core intact. With that being said, they haven’t been able to win the Finals despite having stellar seasons recently.
That could motivate them to move in another direction, opening the door up for other teams. The Detroit Pistons find themselves as the team with the most favored odds of landing Ayton on BetOnline.
Detroit has the second-most projected cap space available in the NBA, so they have the means to get a deal done.
Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey, and Isaiah Stewart are young pieces of the Pistons’ future. They also just landed the 5th overall pick after the NBA Draft lottery results, so they could be looking to make some big moves for their future.
Which Team Could Use Ayton the Most?
Do the Detroit Pistons need Ayton the most though? We know he’s a talented player, but he does have a couple of inconsistencies about him. It’s hard to gauge his total performance given that he’s a 3rd option on his team and isn’t currently in his prime.
You could say the best is ahead, but he’s also going to be pretty expensive. It will be interesting to see which team pulls the trigger on Ayton at this point in time.
Ayton is ready to be on either a win-now or a rebuilding team. He fits in a lot of roles and basically any team can use him. It will rely on a lot of the financial aspects, which might make him more fit for a team with cap space.
Orlando was the team to land the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA lottery, so they could be a team just like Detroit here soon. They also have the most projected cap space, which could help them out in what could be a bidding war.
Portland and Chicago are two teams who can use Ayton right now. They both could be playoff teams in the upcoming season and could use his presence in their lineups. These two teams need a good defensive center to help anchor their team, while other players take care of the offensive duties.
Ayton’s free agent market is going to be hot this offseason, so it will be interesting to see if he leaves Phoenix or goes in another direction.
