  • Max Verstappen is the bookies’ favorite to win the 2022 World Drivers’ Championship.
  • The defending champion holds a 46-point lead atop the standings after nine races.
  • Verstappen will aim to extend his lead at the British Grand Prix this Sunday, July 3.

As we head into the tenth race of the 2022 Formula One season, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is the current betting favorite to win the World Drivers’ Championship.

The reigning champ is on a two-race winning streak following victories in Azerbaijan and Canada. When you look at the bigger picture, the 24-year-old has won five of the previous six races.

The F1 roadshow hits Silverstone this weekend, as the British Grand Prix takes center stage. Let’s see what the bookies make of the title battle before looking ahead to the British GP.

Latest Formula 1 Odds – 2022 World Drivers’ Championship

Max Verstappen-600
Charles Leclerc+600
Sergio Perez+3300
George Russell+5000
Lewis Hamilton+6600
Carlos Sainz+10000

All the best Formula 1 betting sites view Verstappen as the clear favorite to win the title. Although there are still 13 of the 22 races remaining, the defending champion has opened up a sizeable lead in the standings.

In the eyes of the F1 oddsmakers, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is Verstappen’s nearest rival. The Monegasque driver started the season strongly, but a series of disappointing displays have seen him fall down the pecking order.

Despite sitting second in the standings, Sergio Perez is the bookies’ third favorite. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate triumphed in Monaco, adding an impressive victory to four second-place finishes this year.

The Mercedes duo of Goerge Russell and Lewis Hamilton will be looking to close the gap on home soil this weekend. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz will be hoping to secure his first win of 2022 after achieving five podiums so far.

Can Anyone Stop Max Verstappen?

Verstappen endured a difficult start to the season, registering two DNFs across the opening three races. Since then, however, the Red Bull star has scarcely put a foot wrong.

The reigning champ has won five of the past six races, meaning he has six race wins to his name this year. As a result, he finds himself atop the World Drivers’ Championship standings – 46 points clear of his closest challenger.

  • Max Verstappen (175)
  • Sergio Perez (129)
  • Charles Leclerc (126)
  • George Russell (111)
  • Carlos Sainz (102)
  • Lewis Hamilton (77)

Last year, Verstappen clinched his maiden Formula 1 Championship in dramatic fashion – overtaking Hamilton on the final lap of the final race to secure the silverware. However, the title battle is nowhere near as tight this season.

With Ferrari and Mercedes struggling to keep pace with Red Bull, Verstappen could cruise to a comfortable Championship victory if nothing changes.

Looking Ahead to the British Grand Prix

As you would expect, Verstappen is favored to take the chequered flag at Silverstone. You can back Verstappen at around -111 on the top F1 betting apps, with Leclerc (+225) and Perez (+700) in second and third, respectively.

So, will anyone be able to challenge the frontrunner this weekend?

Granted, Leclerc and Perez are viewed as Verstappen’s biggest threats for a reason. But Hamilton and Russell will fancy their chances of taking the chequered flag in front of their home fans.

It is worth noting that Hamilton has won seven of the last eight British GPs. Having won each of the previous three, the seven-time World Champion will be confident of pushing Verstappen all the way on Sunday.

You would be foolish to ignore Russell’s recent form, too. With nine consecutive top-five finishes in the books, the Mercedes newcomer looks destined to finish atop the podium in the not-too-distant future.
