Soccer fans all across North America are buzzing with excitement. Why? Because Major League Soccer returns this weekend!

The 2022 season gets underway this Saturday, February 26, with all 28 teams in action on the opening weekend. New York City FC begins its title defense against LA Galaxy, while MLS newcomer Charlotte FC faces DC United.

Having clinched the 2021 Supporters’ Shield in record-breaking style, New England Revolution is the bookmakers’ favorite to lift the MLS Cup this year. Can the Revs secure the top prize? Or will we see a different name on the trophy?

Let’s check out the odds for the 2022 MLS Cup.

2022 MLS Cup Betting Odds

Here are the latest MLS Cup odds for 2022, featuring the top ten favorites. Head over to the best Major League Soccer betting sites to find the full price list.

New England Revolution6.50
Seattle Sounders8.50
Los Angeles FC8.50
New York City FC10.00
Sporting Kansas City13.00
Philadelphia Union13.00
Nashville SC15.00
Colorado Rapids15.00
Atlanta United17.00
New York Red Bulls21.00

It is hardly surprising that all the top MLS betting sites view the Revs as favorites. Although they ended up falling short in the playoffs last year, they were undoubtedly the strongest team throughout the regular season.

Seattle and LAFC are also expected to mount a serious challenge for the MLS Cup in 2022. The Sounders suffered a shock playoff exit to Real Salt Lake last year, while the Black & Gold missed out on the postseason altogether.

Fresh from clinching its first-ever MLS Cup, NYCFC heads into the new campaign as the bookies’ fourth favorite. Can Ronny Deila’s men defend their crown?

Sporting KC and Philadelphia are both priced at 13.00, while Nashville and Colorado are at 15.00. Atlanta United is also in the mix, with the Red Bulls rounding out the top ten.

It’s time to take a closer look at the leading contenders.

Will the Revs Live Up to Expectations?

When I published my MLS power rankings for 2022, New England came out on top. Bruce Arena’s boys sealed the Supporters’ Shield with ease last season, meaning they will be confident of going one better this year.

The Revs racked up the largest regular-season points tally in MLS history last year. With 22 wins, seven draws, and five losses, they notched a mammoth 73 points – 12 points more than Colorado in the West.

Carles Gil scooped the 2021 MVP award after contributing 18 assists, while Adam Buksa and Gustavo Bou netted 31 goals between them. Believe it or not, New England could get EVEN better this year.

Arena has been busy bolstering his squad during the offseason, signing Sebastian Lletget from LA Galaxy and Jozy Altidore from Toronto FC. With a couple of USMNT legends in their ranks, the Revs look seriously strong.

Who Are New England’s Main Challengers?

Having reached four of the past six MLS Cup finals, Seattle will almost certainly go deep into the postseason this year. The Sounders lifted the trophy in 2016 and 2019. On top of that, they have secured five straight second-place finishes in the Western Conference.

We all know that LAFC underperformed last season, but they will be back in 2022. With stars such as Carlos Vela, Cristian Arango, and Kellyn Acosta leading the way, the Black & Gold looks destined to make a resurgence.

Naturally, New York City will be desperate to secure back-to-back titles. The Bronx Blues saw off Atlanta, New England, and Philadelphia on their way to dispatching Portland in last year’s showpiece.

Sporting KC and Philly are also among the bookies’ favorites for a reason. Boasting stacked rosters, they could go all the way in 2022.

Could an Outsider Win the 2022 MLS Cup?

Led by Hany Mukhtar – one of the top MLS MVP contenders for 2022 – Nashville could upset the MLS odds this year. Check out my bold predictions for the 2022 Major League Soccer season to find out how far I think Nashville can go.

The Timbers will fancy their chances of going deep into the playoffs, having made it all the way to the final last season. Remarkably, Portland is currently priced at 26.00 to lift the trophy.

You would also be foolish to write off teams like Orlando City and Minnesota United. Let’s not forget that Charlotte FC is about to make its Major League Soccer debut, too. Who knows where the North Carolinians will end up?
